I work on what is now known as Blackpool light rail. 1 of 12 peeps "four Teams" 27 miles of overhead infrastructure and 11 substations to look after. Although I would suspect the intricate stuff Barney does?
6.6KV into the sub through our rectifiers and feeds the OLE with 750DC.
Just routine maintainence now we hope. We have taken 3 winters to overhaul the complete system ready for 19 Flexity 2 to run a 10 minute service. 10 guys one unimog an engineering car and a dray.

Hats off to you, fella [IMG]

Watched 'Our War' last night and was just left a bit speechless by it all. Definitely not your run-of-the-mill job and as a civvie it's an awkward feeling to sit there afterwards with the nagging feeling that you'd not have the guts to do it [IMG]

Run my bike workshop (its been taking over my life for the last 20 years), welding in the yard (all sorts), CCTV systems, Alarm systems, lots of odd stuff to, I try to keep my hand in a few pies....lol Even drive a JCB (well a case) and 360s from time to time, oh and fell a few trees here and there for fire wood and to run through the saw mill here in the yard...if I'm lucky people pay me to "bring out the guns" :)

The past: build digital video PCs, Die sublimation printing, PCB design and prototype production, electronics, all of which still play a small role in making money to fund those damm bikes!

I used to be a regional operations manager for a large metal recycling firm. We had contracts with the MOD and BT to name but 2. We were the ones that got the new never flown Hercules aeroplanes and had to destroy them :(
Was in that game for a good few years but decided time for a change.

Now Im general manager for HM Quickshifters so a complete change of industry for me but I have always loved bikes and its a dream to be involved with them :)

Ok then Arthur, with all the spare time you have I think you should design something like a 'wheelie safe'. Its a device that you fit to your bike with an lcd display. On the display are a series of dots going from @ 10° clockwise to @75°. You simply select the attitude you want to wheelie, ie 45°. The onboard gyroscope coupled with some electronics will measure the angle and cut the ignition when required, allowing anybody to practise wheelies without trashing their p&j. It could be simply wired through the side stand switch. At @£150 a pop its cheaper than a wheelie school. Oh, and because its my idea, when you make a £1,000,000 I want 20%. Lol.
