Yesterday and today I drained and flushed the coolant. Took 3 flushes yesterday to get it clear and refilled, and then today was just a final level check before hopefully having a short ride tomorrow to check everything is ok.

Now just need to find where I can take the stuff I drained, apparently it's not the done thing these days to pour it down the drain

 

Every council waste recycling centre has a means for accepting waste coolant, brake/clutch fluid, oil, etc

Finally in the mood to change the chain n sprockets








Not much difference in chain length surprised me

 

How did the sprockets compare?

 

Not much in it , no hooking .
If anything the new is slightly wider tooth but not as much wear as expected.
Putting down to regular 80/90 gear oil lubing.

Oil and filter change yesterday aswell

 

@Selmer50mark noticed you had a JT rear socket. What do you think of it? Looking at having mine done this year and it seems to be a nice price when compared to Renthal etc.

 

Hi @Barstewardsquad I just replaced like for like so I couldn't comment on Renthal , all I know is these old ones have done 24 plus thousand and still looked ok to me. New ones purchased from Sportsbikeshop

 

Many years ago when I fitted my heated grips I made up an adaptor to fit them to a connector behind the headlight. This meant I had a load of wire on the feed side, and I just twist tied it out of the way. This always made doing anything behind the headlight a pain as it was very tight for space and struggled to close.

So today I had to move the headlight as one of my indicators decided to break, and so I cut out the excess cable from the heated grips. Just measured what I removed and it was 46"

Hopefully when new indicator arrives tomorrow it will be a lot easier to close up the headlight unit.

I did consider it but a new pair was less than £30.

 

First ride out of the year. Quick blast out to H's cafe fast A and B roads but too much traffic. Just nice to be out on the old girl again.

 

Hopefully fixed my heated grips. They were only working intermittently on my ride this morning, and I found that wiggling the adapter cable I made up years ago to feed from the official connector made them come on and off.

Traced what I found looked like a crease in the cable, so decided to remove the plug and just use bullet connectors. Bad move as they were connecting properly and were leaving bits of the the metal exposed. Whilst trying to fix it I managed to pull the cable core right out of the oem plug I bought to connect into the loom.

Luckily when I bought the oem plugs years ago I got a slack handful despite never expecting to need them. Made up the new lead and decided the safest bet was to solder it into the grips wiring.

Tested the grips and they worked fine, so finger's crossed it's now all sorted.

 

MOT for the Fireblade this morning - all passed with no advisories

Bled the clutch, fitted r&g casing protectors, replaced a clip on, gear lever and foot peg and replaced gilles swingarm protectors. Next jobs are fitting Xenon’s, led indicators, stainless headers, PC 5, r&g aero crash bungs, get panels painted and fit new decals.
The joys of a low side
