Maybe it’s just me but meeting the man and chatting to him at Springfields and the realisation he is ‘just a nice, same as the rest of us’ all be it mega talented fella I actually want him to retire a super star and not push his luck. I for one do not want to see him get hurt and the TT should he race is going to be far more personal for me.

Don’t for one minute think I am not looking forward to it, I am. . It’s just changed for me having shot the breeze with someone, a human being, that thinks and feels like us mere mortals.

I am just saying what I feel.

agree after meeting with him he is one sound bloke that has time for his fans and i respect him for that and would hate to see anything happen god forbid! but also would like to see him go on and match joeys 26th wins, wish them all the best for this seasons road racing and safe and sound rides. bring it on cant wait.

It seems to be a trend among some types of more 'grass root' motorsports. The road racers being one of them. Back in the day the world rally championship was the same. You could pitch up, actually get access to the world champion and discuss the previous stage with them. They had that knack of including you that's gone. Lets hope road racers stay the same.

Incidentally, you can go to the Festival of Speed and still enjoy the late greats and they'll still make you feel you're part of their team.

It's the lack of " arsey agents" that contribute to the approachability of these guys…

Some dude i know is an agent for premier footballers and some soap stars, he's a reet cock, and tells his clients that everything should go through him, fans included…

A couple of years ago at Goodwood, John Surtees tripped over my foot and stumbled into me after climbing off his bike.

    "Terribly sorry old boy"

    "Not a problem Sir John..."

I've yet to go near that boot with polish.

I agree Ken, pre economic crisis when we had money to throw around we used to host a customer event at the Festival of speed every year. Access to the great and the god's was easy and they seemed to enjoy the banter.

Yeah nice guy, but I fear he is chasing the wins, I would love him to beat joeys wins. At the same time john is sensible enough to know when his time is up. I see he is riding a Honda 500 in the light weight class this year also.
