I think Colin hit the nail on the head with his post within the ‘what do you get to the gallon’ thread, I can’t put my finger on it either, I understand nothing stays the same and everything is constantly evolving but the forum has changed and not in a good way. I used to feel quite proud to be part of this forum community that had healthy debate on a whole spectrum of bike and non bike related issues. People could ask for help, advice or just chat without fear of being humiliated or ridiculed knowing that folk on here would go out there way to help others. Whilst you would not expect everyone to have the same opinions, points were put across in a mainly polite and constructive manner without any malice. Those that didn’t buy into the vibe didn’t hang around long. I have made some very good valued friendships via the forum based on a mutual trust and respect underpinned by a common love of all things motorcycle. Some people I have met personally and others only on line but either way it makes no difference to the friendship made. There seems to be a very destructive undercurrent at the moment that I am not enjoying, maybe it’s just old age creeping up, but at 51 I just can’t be bothered with the petty squabbles. Sorry folks but it’s all getting a bit boring and if it continues down this path I will be finding myself logging in less and less. Which is exactly what’s been happening over the last couple of months without me even realising it.
I totally agree mate! I was shocked by the behaviour I received on here recently when selling an exhaust.... It's like there's a small group of individuals on here that just want to bring negativity to what has been a hugely positive and supportive forum
unfortunately it happens to a lot of forums not just this one. the only way around it is more moderation which some might not like, I think the best tag would be "If you have nothing constructive to say, say nothing" I noticed a lot of posts lately too that people rather than trying to be helpful were instead doing there best to try and nit pick at other member's more helpful posts.
Hi David, unfortunately it's no longer the friendly place it once was, however there are still some good guys, all of society evolves and as the forum gets bigger it will always be dominated by those that shout loudest but its important that members like you stay and keep a balance. I too am a little more circumspect when posting through fear of confrontation. I stick around for the interaction with the like minded, and ken I've been on a couple of rideouts and to be fair the guys I've met are good company, you and Ling included so the answer is to take from the forum what suits you and ignor what doesn't. Arrange another meal David, Angie and are are inn!
I feel the same, it is a shame but it is what happens on many forums. I try to 'ignore' most of the rubbish remarks etc but I have found it too much to ignore lately as there has been so much of it. There are some fantastic people on here, but the spoilers have been allowed a bit too much slack. Moderation can be a pain, but if disruptive people are not removed then the rot will continue unfortunately. It would be great if it returned to it's former friendly helpful atmosphere, if it doesn't then the trolls can have the playground all to themselves as I am too old to play stupid games.
I agree things have changed but I will say to the good people on here please do not be put off by the few bad people on here! I joined last year after my knee replacement and this place really helped me keep in touch with the biking world while fighting boredom and depression, I then met some fantastic guys on our ride out from loomies, I have then had fantastic advice and offers for help. As you all know my bike was then repaired/saved by a forum member! I have recieved parts cheap and some even for free Please think of the good things before leaving. Apart from recent events the only other bad thing is I seem to spend alot more bloody money since joining!
I hear you, brother. At one point some of the posts, jokes, language were doing my nut. Couldn't believe we were in the 21st century. Thought about jacking. Then decided to stay and fight.
i relatively new to this forum, there a alot a good people on here and there, ive only made one ride out so far the guy were all top lads. i have see the odd comment i don't agree with but i suppose i sometime say thing other people don't like. there has been a weird undertone last 3 weeks though
As a very new person to this forum, I have found it nothing but friendly. Granted I haven't read the threads that's mentioned on this. Have met one of you guys already, who was very friendly as well. And have bought a few parts off another few who have always came across as very friendly as well. Have never felt I couldn't say anything in threads that would lead to ridicule either. Having been (and still am) part of a forum (football one) that started out small and became absolutely huge, I know that it is inevitable that there are varied characters, senses of humour, ideas and beliefs. I would say stick with it, converse with the ones you know and trust more than any of the ones you don't. Not checked but perhaps an ignore feature could be added to apply for those you don't. Anyway, I have nothing but good experiences here so far, and have been more frequently on here than the football one which I have been part of since about 2004 when it started. I hope that continues to be the case. This has been the best bike forum I have came across anyway.
probably since i joined lol it's an ism known as forum fatigue. new members join and ask the same old questions, established members cba answering and sort of a clique evolves.... this is seen as arsyness and so people dont bother coming back. tbh i dont really see an air of arsyness here otherwise i wouldnt bother. jeez you might want to spend an evening on the gixxer forums! or even better - facebook bikers lol :/ try posting on there and see the replies you get! you can always gauge your regular haunts by which sites you click on first when you boot up.... chin up anyway, you usually only see this in the dark months when people get stir crazy and start niggling at each other. *does this site have an ignore feature???? if so, use it!
We are all different with different views.Some are immature in their ways, some speak their minds and some are damn rude.I'm still here cos the majority of folks on here talk sensibly without speaking offensively and have /seek mutual respect.Please if you are the minority and you know who I'm talking about please give some respect when posting.Like face to face interacting you speak how you wish to be spoken to.
I agree with freedom 100% , I joined the forum because it felt and looked very friendly and I was very ill and when I started to meet people and went out to take pictures you've no idea how much of a boost it was , I was out looking at bikes , meeting new friends , The friends I've made , met , and the ones on line, , OUTSTANDING , BUT there are members on this forum that are dragging it down to there own level , The amount of things that si has done for me is unbelievable and 11 months ago I did not know him , he will always be a true friend ( but his brothers a cheeky sod ) lol.. Si or his brother would read that and laugh it off its called friendly banter , some folk would reply in a very different way now, which is very sad I reckon , Stop the moaning , arguments , and have fun that's what this forum was FUN , I'd swap places with most of you on here , you go through what I have to everyday and believe me then and only then do you have the right to moan , So come on dudes put this forum back to where it belongs NO1 ,
I think you have mentioned a valid point there barney which I was thinking but was worried about saying incase of a bad response. It's not just the people stirring things up lately I think there has also been a lot of people over reacting to harmless banter, or reading things in a different way to what it was written. Ok I have read things on here that have pissed me off or some that I believe are to try and provoke me into an argument but I simply don't bite, I just click on the next thread and ignore it. To people that know me well this would seem very odd as face to face I don't take shite from anyone but at the end of the day what does an argument on a computer screen really achieve??? This was a place where we could all take the piss out of each other and our bikes and get genuine advice. We all have the same love for 2 wheels and apart from the odd traitor the same bike. But as I said don't take simple banter as arguments/insults
It may have needed this thread just to clear the air and to let things settle down a touch .I can't comment on the activities of other forums and this is because I have no interest in joining one but by the comments of others " we" here have a quality forum with loads of like minded guys and laydee's just enjoying some banter or enquiring on modifications or maintainance issues .Where issues have recently come to a head and caused tempers or deep feelings to be unleashed have mainly not been about biking ,examples (The Woolwich murder) or immigration or the likes ,on the biking side of things we have just had two sides of El- Nicko who only a week or so ago let us have his detailed account of the non stop run he under took which I enjoyed and given his age this was to be commended and should have given inspiration to others who may not use there machine due to other commitments on the other side and this what has unsettled things comments on what would seem an innocent thread where unnecessary and would be classed as aggressive to other members .So there may be things all of US can do and the main one would be to contribute to a thread of interest but keep the language to a minimum and to put across views in a positive manner .For newbies Please review all the threads before coming on and asking " whats the best oil " all the info is usually here but you might have something to add which maybe to all our advantage .From a banter point of view ,black is boring or my Repsol is faster than yours this is just harmless fun and I think we need some humor after a hard day at work .Mods have a roll to play and perhaps we need a replacement for Dan who although has some health issues has not been involved in the forum for ages and should give way for anyone ( not me thanks ) who has the means to help out. So to summarise Please think before you write ,if you make a mistake please apologise so we can quickly move on ,Lets keep the language down to a minimum ( no I am not a vicar but a builder) and Mods we love you but let's toughen up a touch just to keep the standard and quality of this great meeting point available and for the future and well being of this fine forum .

Good thread, and glad it was mentioned wether it makes a difference only time will tell. But we have to ensure that those of us that wouldnt dream of posting something derogatory or rude hang about to keep the soul of 1000rr.co.uk ALIVE. In my ignorance is there a way that you can flag posts (subtly and anonymously) as being 'out of order' like a spam button. then maybe if a person is found as a repeat offender only let them view not post for a while. I hate censorship but I hate the few ruining for the rest! VIVE LA 1000rr.co.uk!!
As mentioned above, another forum I use has a "friends & foes" concept... you can mark members as "friends" or "foes"... not sure what happens with the "friends" option, never tried it, but if you mark a member as a "foe" then you never see their posts/threads. Handy tool if you want to be sure you wont be antagonised by a troll (or someone who just cannot stand!) But I also have to say, much of what has caused the problems (the bits I've seen, anyway) has been rather tame, and a LOT worse goes on on most forums. There's always going to be personality clashes, and clashes between those of opposing sensitivity levels. Also, not everyone is very good at articulating themselves in written form (often an internet forum is the only place where a person needs to communicate in writing... its a dying art) so points get mis-communicated, and emotion inserted "between the lines" where none was meant by the writer. Regardless, please stick at it... I may not post myself very often, but I do enjoy reading the banter, and the good-nature ribbing always gives me smile.
