Hi, I've Recently become the proud owner of an 07 CBR 1000rr Repsol Fireblade it's only done 4500 mile and has been looked after; I intend to do the previous owner justice and keep it to a similar standard. I have a fair mechanical knowledge, but lack the experience, equipment and confidence to do full services on such a sophisticated machine. I live in the North East of England, and would like to know if someone can recommend a first class mechanic that specializes in Honda motorcycles. I'm not too keen on the 'dealers' as I feel the servicing tends to be left to the untrained. Thanks, Mike.
Hi Mike it might be worth taking a look at the member map so you could message a couple of local guys and ask them http://1000rr.co.uk/new-members/2444.htm
If its only done 4.5k, dont waste money on external servicing. Just oil and filter and brake and clutch fluid, make sure the pad/calipers are clean. Usual lube of of all moving parts, if its not been done, change the coolant. Thats all it needs. All hose items are dead basic with minimum tools. Radio on, couple of cups of coffee and a satisfying mornings work.
I'm in the process of building a 6mt x 5mt workshop at the end of the garden, it's not too far away. I think I'll take your advice, wait a short while till it's completed then get the kettle on. Thanks Mike. Yes it's a real good'un I'm chuffed to bits.
Totally agree with KentBlade, I had my 4k service done by the stealership as the bike was still under warranty and just wanted to cover my arse. BUT, if the bike is out of it's warranty period then do it yourself. The blade ISN'T a hard bike to work on, regardless of what some people say (Who "may" be mechanically challenged)............ If your mechanically minded and have some patience, then pretty much any service work is certainly within most bike enthusiast's capabilities. Having some decent tools certainly helps, but just do things methodically and you'll be fine. The workshop manual can be downloaded from a google search and if you follow that you can't go wrong. The only service that some would consider a dealership should carry out is the 16k service when the top end clearences should be checked, but again if you follow the workshop manual even this is straight forward, just accept that the bike will be off the road for more than a day if you need to sort out any accessive clearences.
sorry matey, i cant recommend a mechanic for you because im no in the UK, im in australia but hey, congrads on getting the blade.
