Final Cut Pro X on Mac, canon eos 700d (with the 18-55mm kit lens & a 50mm f1.8 prime lens) and a gopro hero 3..

And the instrumental of "black n yellow" by wiz kahlifa :) thanks for all the feedback guys, glad you like it. Been filming stuff like when the bike was collected, Dyno runs on Saturday, working on the bike etc. Gonna film the acu day and see if we can cobble something watchable together :)

top stuff that final pro, bloody hard though, you can easily put something together but to make it look decent and semi professional is bloody hard work...

maybe you can help me with something on there.......

need to loose the first 5 seconds of an audio clip, on the old one you could shorten the clips and let it play say from 0.07 to 0.49 even when the clip is until 3.00 or so... any ideas? send a pm otherwise if you do.. thanks and keep up the cool editing

Cheers buddy! Yeah it's so easy to cobble bits of video together but trying to create something which holds your audience either through a bit of a story or character or just well paced editing… such an art form getting it right. I'm no expert and learn new things every time I edit tbh.

In the latest version of FCP you can just hover your mouse over the left or right edges of the audio and drag it in/out to trim it down or extend it back to its full length. If the audio is attached to video, right click or option click on the audio and select the option which is something like "split audio from video" and then you can edit the audio independently of the video. Hope this helps buddy :) pm me if you're still stuck and I'll send some screen shots..

That's a good film - I'll watch it again and maybe send a PM with any bits I'd change but its good - and really starts to set the scene of the year ahead.

Having attended the Austin Vince 'how to film your adventure' school recently there are some 'golden rules' one of which is to think of your audience - is this aimed at 'Strangers' or for family / friends - if its for strangers / to increase team following / try and get sponsorship then your films will need to be authored - i.e. 'Hello I'm Mark aka Yorkshire Tyke and 2014 is the year that I go racing. I'm taking in the Hottrax blah blah and the following film introduces the bike I will be racing on, a Yamaha R6'

Then I'd want to learn what you've had to do to your bike, van, some film of the ACU licence process (maybe some classroom shots, a few seconds of 'Mark back at school') - GoPo is ideal for this, its small and easy to place on a table, window sill, light switch to capture some stuff.

Hope that helps - it's a good start and whoever edited it together has an eye to match video to the music to keep interest - my only bit of real feedback would be to shorten the footage 50% - sounds harsh but I think the result would be a much tighter more engaging film (its something I struggle with when putting films together and also know how long it takes).

I'll try and post up the link to my review of a Hottrax endurance race - I know that is too long but it could give you some ideas of things to try when it comes to race time.

This was the Hottrax film review I did - looks bad in places when I watch it back - wish I'd had a monopod at least to get rid of the camera shake

I think paul is planning to film the whole racing year as him and another brother of mine are joining me at every event. Hopefully we will have a nice half hour or so long video in review of the year to try and give people a sense of what its like starting out!

Yeah still undecided on whether to go with an episodic format 3-4 mins a piece or just hang fire and do the lot as a one 15-20 minute thing..

I would do an episode thing for 3-4 minutes and then a year round up at the end ;)

I think race report in the 3 / 4 minute film episode style - people can follow progress.

Have you setup a dedicated vimeo channel for all the films plus twitter to help push message - all helps esp if you need to try and raise sponsorship

got our Facebook page, would take 2 mins to set up Instagram and Twitter tbh. Thinking short episodes could be good. Ultimately aiming for high quality polished end edits, but if all else fails, us guys will have some fun memories and records to look back on during the winter months next year :)
