Pre dyno set up

    Hi all,

    I'm getting the RR5 to the dyno for setting up the PC3. I've had the airbox flap removed, it has a an Akro rear section and ive just got some performance filters of the bay.

    Is there anything else i should consider? It had plugs about Oct last year. Just wondered if there was any other mods or adjustments i should make?

    Grateful if anyone knows of any.

    Im new to these things but what about the PAIR mod? Cheap thing to do before you go to the dyno?

    Other than that just check your fluids, tyre pressures and chain adjustment

    Right - this is where i show how green i am: what's the PAIR mod?
    All fluids, tyres and chain in fine fettle ;) I think i'll get an oil change while it's in as well!

    The dyno dude will clamp off the PAIR valve anyway whilst mapping.
    I had a Autotune on my last motor so I had the PAIR valve disconnected.

    Bring a USB stick with you and ask for a copy of all the dyno runs, if your a geek like me they are very interesting to analyse afterwards!

    So what is this PAIR mod bud?

    I see you're Iver - that near Slough? Near me!?

    standard the bike chucks air in to the Exhaust to improve emissions basically, bypass the Pair system and theres some small running improvements to be made (so im told). If its blanked anyway on the dyno you could probably do this afterwards without much issue if you wanted... Where you getting it setup, custom map I presume?

    I guess that means you are going to PDQ, not done one for the Blade yet but they mapped my CB1000R and the results were awesome.
    Small throttle response was greatly improved and the mid range was much torquey and prolonged in the rev range.

    With regards the PAIR mod, basically the PAIR valve lets fresh air into the exhaust gases allowing unburnt fuel to be combusted. Especially on after market cans you hear this as popping on the over run, some peeps like it some dont.

    Interesting, so the pair valve looks like an AIS (air induction system) which i presume one would only do if they had de-catted the exhaust or am i totally wrong here??

    If you fit a wideband O2 sensor (eg autotune) then disabling removal is necessary as it will screw up the AFR readings it provides. (This is why it is clamped at the dyno)

    For emissions and the general health of the environment it should be left hooked up. I guess if you still have the Cat you should leave it in as the un-burnt gases can damage it.

    I'm a big fan of Nick at PDQ who runs the dyno, and Larry always gives great advice. But i've been introduced to Andy Galloway who's doing my throttle bodies and valve clearances, and he has a great relationship with GPPerformance over by the H cafe.

    Andy has a particularly comprehensive background with setting up Hondas and has worked with GPP in the past to get the best set ups. We'll see eh!

    BTW: there's a track day at RAF Benson which is how i heard about both Andy and GPP. Check it out ;)

    Ah that sounds good, done the Odiham RAF day that ones quite close also!! Do they have a website or anything?

    Yeah i did an advanced braking course at Odium a few years back.

    The guys at Benson dont have a website but you can catch up on what they do on their facebook page

    I'm a novice to track-days so im planning to do this and Castle Combe this year so far! Did Silverstone last year and loved it!

    Aye and stick some petrol in ,was on dyno last week 44 miles on it and it scrans the fuel doing these sort of rpm,s

    For the record the PAIR system has no performance gains at all, the air enters the system after the combustion stage, blocking or removing it saves the dyno opp a job of clipping it off, also ensures that a lazy dyno opp has mapped the bike correctly, it has been known that bikes get mapped with it running and as said the system then reads the extra air giving a false AFR value. Important as said that IF running AT it's removed or disabled for the same reason.

    PAIR system is also known as the SAS or Air induction system.

    Thanks ABM. I'm planning to have achat with the dyno guys prior to dropping it off next week so ill make sure these arent lazy sods eh!!
