    Hi
Keep hearing the same comments that the newer models 08 onwards are oil burners ,mine has used a bit approx 300ml in about 800 miles, now is this normal I'm guessing it is as my old cbr6 used oil.I'm guessing it's to do with fine tolerances in the engine and the fact something revving this high is gonna use a bit of oil or am I wrong
    Cheers Stu

Some are, some aren't I suppose. It seems that the earlier models (2008) can be thirsty but saying that my mate's is a 2008 and it doesn't use hardly any ?
Mine is a 2009 with 16k spirited miles, uses hardly any oil, maybe a drop if I've ploughed down the French motorway all day or ragged it a bit in the mountains.
It uses a bit more than some of my other bikes but not much more, I've heard that some of the later models can drink oil too ?

    My 2012 doesn't use any...

Just popped 10k miles, and the only oil put in has been at servicing...

My 08 and 11 never really used any I suppose 300ml is not that much as you may have put in 100ml extra than needed which makes 200ml acceptable .:)

So 300ml is not a problem then.Bladejogger I would say your 150ml for a 1000 miles is not a problem.
    Thanks again Guys

My 08 drank oil like mad and the engine was not well by 38,000 miles. My 12 with 17,000 miles on it has used none !

    My 12 burned since the beginning , but crazy around 30 000 ams ! like 1L 800kms .....

New cylinder block and aftermarket pistons seems to solve the issue .....

It must be realated to runin I think... Why some do some don't. Wouldn't think factory tolerances are off by much... Now people who burn oil how did you run the bike in? Gentle or hard? Been reading and there is a lot of evedence for hard runin to reduce oil burning and get better power.

My dealer rode the first 4 miles... But no idea how hard. All of mine from 4 to 600 miles was done commuting. 36 miles. twice a day. No thrashing. No lugging. No long runs in the same gear (Not that you can ever stay in the same gear for long on the M4). Seems to have worked.

I was third owner in 13 months, the first owner was born 1948 and took six months to get to 600 miles for first service, second owner who I bought it off had it two months,he was early sixties and couldn't get comfortable on the bike, quite probable that neither of these two thrashed it,came with 1700 miles on clock done in one year,so Lambchops theory may be true?

I have been hearing about this oil issue for 6 years now and its still going on !!! The trouble with all of this is that it reduces confidence in the model, a new buyer coming into the brand and the blade will first Google it..... and he/she will just see lots of posts on forums just like this talking about oil usage, then they will view the very funny (and genius) YouTube video of Hitlers Blade using oil :D, and this alone could spell enough uncertainty to move them to another bike

I really thought Honda would have got this sorted by now, i have heard before (from a dealer) that the reason they use a lot of oil is that they are fine tuned/high performance/thoroughbred machines and that's just the way it is..... so why did my 954RR2 use zero oil, why does my mates ZX-10R use zero oil... are these not in the same league. Its the uncertainty that is so damaging, Like superbike russian roulette.

Part supply default at engine production - piston rings out of tollerence on a batch of engines = oil use

Trust me, I've put 3.5 litres of the stuff in mine in a week
