I'd bet youre right and he doesnt give a flying fook what anyone thinks who isnt out there between hedges with him too.. Good luck with a "serious orientation review" !! Sure he comes across a bit knobbish on camera but sitting at a PC calling anyone a fat child isnt exactly saint material either. Hes expected to win first and foremost and he seems to do that pretty well without resorting to elbows out. As for Rutter, if you've ever watched any single press conference with the two of them you'll know well that they both like having digs at each other and both can give as good as they get! As for the comment, well he was just in off 3 races and probably the last thing on his mind was his PR savvy tricks lol. I know I get pissed off behind people racing when theyre slow in a corner and all straight line speed- nevermind him trying to prove his BMW's worth. Hes the man of the moment sadly, like it or lump it!! 4/5 at the TT last year and man of the meeting at the NW200. TT2014 will now see if he can hold the momentum
Points taken essentially from what I understand it is ok for MD to win whatever the cost? At least that seems to be the logic that is put in front of me here if I have interpreted it wrong by all means fill me in. Difference in character here for you - When MD Loses a race - "These BSB boys don't know the roads, their lines are all dodgy. They need to show me more respect and so on" When GM Loses a race - " I'll keep trying, I won't give in" Now I have no interest in PR for me it's about personality and heat of the moment and all that jazz aside for one second nobody can deny that he does love to throw a wobbler when it doesn't go his way. I understand people want to defend him by all means that is your right and prerogative however singling me out for calling him a fat child well I'm merely stating fact on how his behavior is interpreted by me and that is my opinion which I am entitled to and I am definitely not a saint by any means but on the occasion when I have been bested by a better person I have the common courtesy to shake their hand and congratulate them. I'm not going to say any more on the subject other than this whilst I respect his talent as a rider and he does have talent make no mistake and I suppose because I ride a BMW I should support him (loyalty to the brand and all that) but to be honest I won't be because he does nothing to deserve my support and I've never once seen him say thank you to his fans (not saying he hasn't ever just saying I've never seen it.) I don't wish the man any harm I just wish he would get less TV time so that I don't have to see or listen to his bully boy tactics while he talks tough into a microphone if I wanted to see that sh*t I'd watch the WWE ffs...
I totally hear you guys but no other risk taking racer among the pack has that shitty disrespectful attitude before or after a race! I know he is talented but so is a lot of the blokes that take part in the races but doesn't excuse his unacceptable manner! John McGuinness said when asked about MD at his show I was at last year that MD is very abrasive and angry! John had to pull aside a couple of times about how he was talking to the team mechanics told him he would get more out of them if just talk to them decent also said he doesn't have much mechanical sympathy and ride the bike like he's trying to crush the throttle and rip the clip on off! His manner will get people back up if he's doin for all to see!
For sure hes nuts lol. I dont get the whole hero factor, I just admire the fella's riding. Used to love watching him racing farquhar on the roads. Ryan would be as precise as anything, surgically cutting through a corner... always in the same gear, revs and position and then theres Micky coming in behind like a bull in a china shop sliding sideways. Amazing to watch first hand, the cameras do no justice to the road races. Any time ive spoke to him hes been 100% but then I wouldnt throw a mic under his helmet straight after a race either! Lol
For what it's worth I thought William brushed him off pretty well after laughing at him. And late in his own interview after that race MD was laughing and smiling saying it "was all good". His comment about 'respect' was quite obviously tongue in cheek, it's just that his non expressive way of talking made it sound serious IMO. No way would he dig his bro up for cutting him off to win. And I am sure if he was being serious, then MD would have turned up for the next race with a shiner. I was a little more annoyed at him for the comments about the "BSB boys" and how they "held him up braking into corners". But hey, we know he isn't Mr Personality. His bike riding has calmed down a lot over the past couple of years too. 3 or 4 years ago he was just reckless, determined to win at whatever cost. So much so that he nearly took Guy Martin out at the NW200 (or was it the Ulster) and at the TT on the hairpin. Met him two years ago down in Ramsay at the TT and he seemed a nice guy away from the paddock. Just my tuppence worth anyway.
Does seem to be a common complaint among "Road racers" vs the BSB paddock that does the odd road race. Guy Martin always saying the same and heard a good few others repeating it. Most of them say they only push ~90% on roads so maybe thats what hes on about? Saying that, he seems to be the fastest fooker about so im sure he thinks everyone is holding him up lol
Thing is, I could understand it if it was maybe first timers or relative newcomers to the roads. But it was Rutter and Johnston he was on about. You can't just label them as BSB boys. Rutter has more experience on that NW circuit than MD. And if you know the guy behind carries more speed into a corner, and is likely the man to beat, then you are gonna try and hold him up a bit.
Might have been Seeley he was on about? Thats what I thought anywho. Seeley well known for closing doors on folk, maybe not anymore at the nw200 lol or he will get put on a stake haha. Ack sure hes just speaking his mind. If hes being held up, hes being held up. He doesnt do a PR filter on what he thinks. He just says it as it is. Hes there to race bikes and any racer will tell you the most annoying thing is people who just horse it on a straight. Im sure people on here racing sure know it too.. us Honda boys are getting spanked by the ZX10's and BMW's on straights! Bloody pisses me off too lol
Pretty much like me most rounds this year ha.... Good luck and keep us posted? What series you run in?
Irish superbike cup My first proper season racing but dabbled a few last year but still learning every race. Mental craic :-D
I watched it expecting to see some major fireworks after the comments on the thread but didnt seem that big a deal to me..... Racing has many characters some more liked than others and some serious passion. It is what makes it interesting for us to watch But if Dave is correct and he gave it the R..... word then I can totally understand all the fuss!
Just a quick note for anybody who is new to this thread and doesn't have time to read through it all here is a quick summary....
