The Blade died on me yesterday as I approached a roundabout. I noticed that the high beam headlight indicator was lit up on the dash when it wasn't switched on. Rolled to a safe stop. The bike would turn over and fire once but wouldn't run. Headlight not on when igntion switched on. Both rear indicators on solidly but not the fronts! No priming of fuel pump when ignition turned on. Hazard lights not working. Called the AA who couldn't fix it and then had to wait for another truck to take me home. All fuses were ok The AA chap called his base and they found some mention of this problem on one of the bike forums. Something to do with an 8 pin connector??? Any ideas boys??? Bike is now home in the garage and I will be calling Honda this morning.
8P connector is under tank right side (white) could be cause as does carry connections from h/light, indicators and bank sensor. Maybe worth a look and see if there is any water damage or burning!
Check this out sounds like the problem CBR 600 F4i Fuel Pump Prime and Headlight Problem!!!! HELP!!! - Honda Motorcycles - FireBlades.org
The AA man looked for this connector but he was told it was on the left side of the bike ! I haven't looked for it because even if I found it, I do not have the skills, specialist tools or parts to fix it and the bike is still under warranty. My local Honda Centre will come and collect the bike next week and they can have a look. Your suggestions are very useful and I can pass them on to the Honda mechanic. It sounds like it may well be that connector or a bad earth somwhere.
Random lighting, indicator lights, corroded/burnt out connectors usually point to a bad earth etc or a fecked ECU
It gets worse ! Honda came this morning to take the bike away. I tried the key in the bike and she's now working perfectly!! This will make the problem much harder to find ! They have taken the bike anyway as it needs to be investigated. I dare not go on a long ride and have the same thing happen again!
Defo a bad connection or duff ECU if it's righted it'self overnight. Bet the Honda Tech would rather be using your Bike lift than his employers!
LOL. They actually have some nice lifts at the Honda garage. Fed up now because the weather is nice and Honda are very busy. They may not be able to look at my bike until next week !
Just had a call from Honda. They are blaming the wiring I did on my Rizoma rear indicators ! The AA man checked all of that when I broke down ! Is it likely that this could have caused such massive electrical issues? Ready for my collection now. £220 bill !
Think I would have been sorting out myself silverback, seems steep that price could not have took all day to sort at 40 hr lab
Well yes........but we were all convinced that I may have been a warranty claimable issue and I didn't want to go digging myself for that reason. They reckon it took them 7 hours to identify the problem but are only charging me for three. If it was indeed my fault, I'm happy to pay. Just find it hard to believe that an issue with the indicator wiring would screw up all the other stuff !
Okay, just gone through the wiring diagram, in theory yes this could be the cause a bad earth. But don't think it would be the indicators I would lean more towards the Tail light/ Brake light. The indicators would only be live once switched on and a bad earth would then energise and mess other systems up (without going into detail, but once turned off the rear indicator circuit would be dead no bad earth losing the problem. If the rear light had a bad earth then this would be energised on ignition and with a bad earth would therefore mess other systems up. So would lean more towards the tail light being the problem if this was played with. But to find the problem surely shouldn't take 7 hours. The only thing that would concern me would be the problem went away so the fault would have to be proved before any repair. We will see!
They told me that they found the fault by chance. Wiggled the wires while the ignition was on and the fuel pump made a noise and primed ! Picking the bike up this afternoon. It will be nice to have her back and ride in this lovely sunshine we have here today.
