Put my legal one back on yesterday, hate it but saves me hassle. Am sure the smaller plate will go back on for a while before too long though.

8x6 is smaller but not so much it stands out.

Smaller does look loads better than the normal huge air brake and as long as you factor in the price of the occasional fine doesn't cost much ;)

no points, fine seems to vary between £30, £60 and I have heard of someone getting a £100?
plus you will need to get changed back to original size and take proof to nearest police station (so i am told, never been caught yet)

or you could go oversize, bit then they could fine you that too lol ;)

It's not the plate size , there is no legal size of a bike plate. Only the height & width of the characters and spaces between them all. So in theory if you could find a plate company that were prepared to juggle the characters and spacing etc, you could probably cram them all onto an 8x6 plate. I've emailed 2 companies and never got a reply. It's probably too much hassle for them to do it. I reckon they must just scale everything down to fit onto an 8x6 hence everything is slightly smaller and crammed together with the click of a mouse.
Anybody who finds a company that can do it, please post a link to them as I'd love an 8x6 that was perfectly legal :D

what you really need is a plate with just "A1" on it, then it could be tiny :)

but yeah if have the usual 4 charters on top and three below and you follow all the proper size letters and gaps you will end up with the more normal Air Brake size :D

Always been a fan of small plates, but fine now £60, increasing to £100, plus the hastle of getting a legal size plate made up and sending photographic evidence to DVLA.

I decided to grow up and stop using the very small letter box 6" x 1.5" plates, and fit a 8" x 6", so far no problems.

    But anything smaller looks good.

It's amazing how much pressure on yourself is removed once the small plate goes .I have had my share of £ 30.00 and £ 60.00 fines but there's no way they are getting £100.00 that's easy pickings dude ....What do you get these days if you are caught shoplifting ......Don't say shot in the head;)

Have been lucky with my 7x5 plate but do change back to full size sometimes if going somewhere I don't know well so that it's one less thing to worry about

Even a 9x7 plate with the correct size letters that hasn't been supplied through someone recognised by the HMSO and have the correct stamps on it is illegal!!... I went with a 8x6 and never had any trouble I think it depends on where you live and what force patrols there how lenient they are! I've only ever heard of riders being done for having ridiculously small plate on! But I suppose the police will see that as taking the piss!
