Yo Chaps Yesterday got me thinking about next year a bit as I realized the racing season is almost over and I will have some more cash. I am wanting to upgrade over the winter, decent suspension first and perhaps some others bits like a racing slipper clutch Options are: 1) Keep the 2006 R6 I have now and throw some money at it 2) Sell this and buy a newer R6 already kitted out with the goodies I'd like 3) Sell the R6 and buy a different bike altogether- 675R?? Thoughts please
The funds you have available will be the prime driver. If you can afford to sell the R6 and buy a race prepped 675R you will have different options to having "only" a few grand to sort suspension etc.
Personally I'd get a 08 onwards r6 with all the bits on.... They have better midrange and power delivery than the 06/07 but handle just as good as same chassis, will handle better than yours if done right but will feel similar to yours so no new learning curve to get over. The triumphs are epic bikes but don't crash well and expensive parts on them mate.... Look around you, weapon of choice in your class is still the r6 I'm guessing???
675 doing 154.00 round Snetterton 300 (It was his home track and only one he does strange). Id either keep yours and throw some suspension money at it or work out if your bike say worth £2700-£3000 then you going to spend £2000 on suspension slipper £600 etc etc etc can you get a newer model with all the bits on for 5k im saying yes you will be upgrading and not spending anymore beer and racing tokens
From my experience with the 600s, I would stick with the R6. Myself and Mike who I race with can't fault them. I sold my 07 bike having done most of last year on it and it never missed a beat, despite 2 big offs. My new 09 bike has done all this year and 3 rounds last year and again not missed a beat. Mike's 07 model (which is running different cams and kicking out about 126hp) has done 2 full years, with no issues at all. By comparison, a mate runs a 675 and has had 3 engines in the last 16 months. This is an extreme case I know, but look at what the majority of people are riding and it is either a ZX6 or R6. I think Superbike magazine did a 600 group test a few months ago and their conclusion was that the 675R was the overall winner, but there was virtually nothing to separate that and the R6 really. It was more the Triumph badge and triple which swung the vote. Get a newer R6 (13s model) with all the bits on or spend the cash on what you have and know.
No worries at all Sir YT. What do you reckon yours is worth if you were to sell it and how much would you put on top for a new bike? There are 3 R6s on motoforum at the moment around the £6,500 mark, that are proper bits of kit. I wouldn't knock the Triumph at all, but I just think, in fact I know from experience, that it is in a different league in terms of running costs.
hmmm I reckon if I sprayed up the new fairings it would sell for around 3.5K, might just bang some suspension on it and do the clutch mod
I sold my 07 R6 about 6 weeks ago for £2,800 and that had K-Tech fork internals, MHP full exhaust, arrow rearsets, but no steering damper or rear shock. It was a good clean bike, so I reckon that yours should fetch £3,500. I would personally stick to your trusty steed, chuck some fancy bouncy bits on it and do the slipper clutch mod and get a good year out if next year. And then, you can buy my 09 bike at the end of next season!
Oh yeah mate it will stil;l be tykewedge racing 0fooks2giv just what class what bike blah blah blah ha ha
Sell it to me? Deal. No hang on, I have a bike. How about you guys do some other club racing, maybe look at doing Darley Moor, Aintree and then you can add on others too. Lots of racing and just as much fun.
How about everyone comes to No Limits and we can all tear it up together! Well Tyke and Robin can in 600's - and we can have a beer and watch the carnage lol
