Ah yes you are right, should have been clearer. I was referring to the your standard Optimates, the maintenance/desulphuration modes that have for lead acid will potentially damage a lithium.

Blimey  £100.00 for a battery + £100.00 for a charger. No thanks. I think I'll just shell out 30 quidz for one of these.....

    Powerline YTZ10S Battery Honda CBR1000RR 04-07 09-12 (ABS Only) CBR600F CBR600RR | eBay

So, at less than £30.00, cheap as chips, + 12 months guarantee, even if it lasted for just 12 months + day I'd still be 'in front' even after I bought one every year for six years! I'll get one and just put it on the shelf until that inevitable day comes when I'm all geared up for a ride-out with the boys and the bike fails to start.;)

Cheers mate. My bike's a 2011 ABS model. I've just got to look up my battery dimensions (as the bikes not here right now) before I order up the Powerline jobie

Well I went ahead and got one of these. £29.95, free p+p. Unbelievable service. Ordered it Wednesday afternoon and it arrived 24 hours later! Will put it on the 'spare battery shelf' against the inevitable day when the bike refuses to start.

I'd be interested to see how you get on with the new battery with it being so cheap

Me too. 'Ya pays ya money and takes a chance.' as they say. But after all 'twas only 30 quids and the worst that can happen is, I'm out on the bike somewhere and it fails to start, in which case I calls the RAC. They've had well over 2000 quidz off me over the years so I'd be quite happy to see 'em earn some of it for once. :p 'spose I could fit it whilst the one that's now on the bike is still serviceable (and keep that as a spare) to see how long it lasts.

    Nick.

Well it does come with a 12 month guarantee, the same as any other battery and it's been my experience, notwithstanding the 'dissing' ebay gets on forums like this one, that commercial sellers are so jealous of their (ebay) reputation that they'll bend over backwards to resolve a problem. Any way lets not forget it's only £30. I can easily drink that away on a wet Sunday in my 'local'. :D

I bought a 'motobatt' for my last ZX9 and R1, cant say I noticed any difference at all either in cracking power which it's supposed to be good at, or the length of time it could stand before failing. Nowt wrong with them but no better than a Yuasa or GS.

Any bike that cant stand for two weeks and then start needs looking at. It's bonkers that you'd have to connect to an optimate (which I've got) to keep it charged over a week. My old R1 (GS battery) could easily go two months and start first time even with a Datatool 3 fitted. My RR7 (new Yuasa) is near the limit after two weeks with a Datatool 4 fitted, pretty much same capacity battery?

You wouldn't accept for a minute you car/van going flat every two months yet bikers seem to accept a few weeks without any charging as good going?

But the average car isn't trying to keep the weight down to the bare minimum unlike a motorcycle, yeah it could have a larger battery but then something else would need lightening to compensate which would cost more in terms of more exotic materials need to be used

If things have gone that far down the road of weight saving that a bike cant last a week or two without recharging then we and the bike designers have obviously lost the plot. Some bikes like my old R1 seem to manage just fine which I can't explain, it would start after three months first time, it was also one of those bikes that always started without having to turnover, it was just 'bang' and ran immediately!

We should do a poll to see how many weeks the blade can go without charging. I suspect alarms are the cause of most of the problems for those that can't go more than a week or two.
