I'm going to fit some race fairings to my blade but I also want to keep the kickstand on and be able to use it. Has anyone else done this? Is it as simple as just cutting part of the fairings out?
Unless you have 'Mechanics' helping U out at Trackdays or Race-meets then I'd keep the side stand, assuming that ground clearance is not an issue. They are invaluable when on your own and I have retained mine on my Track Bike, there was no need for any fairing modification either.
If you get proper race cut fairing they can be trimmed to suit side stand mine are cut to retain stand.......... or get standard cut ones to suit
If you see these pics you can see my problem, Here is road version blade with kick stand (not mine) Here are the fairings I have
The only problem I can see is where the mounting bolt goes. You can make it out just above the 6 on the 60 sticker, if I cut that bit of the fairings out for the stand how will I bolt it on? I would be very interested in looking at some pics of other peoples race fairings with stands before I start hacking bits off!
this is what I did http://1000rr.co.uk/general-1000rr-discussion/8217.htm check out page 8 where I cut the fairing for the side stand
That was an interesting read, I will have to go through it all before I start. Got me thinking, if I got hold of a road version belly pan from someone who has crashed there fairings maybe I could cut the section off for the stand then cut out part of the race fairings and fibreglass it in?
Only problem if I cut mine like that is I will loose the hole for the mounting screw. I was thinking today, maybe I could cut like yours but make a dog leg shape bracket out of 2mm steal plate and rivet it to the fairings
