What crash protection do you use?

    I want to sort the Fireblade out as it has no crash protection on it. All my other bikes have had bungs, Etc on them...

    I see the GB racing cases are popular but rather expensive if you buy the complete kit?

    Do you need the complete kit or just specific parts?

    Any others to consider?

    I'd get the full gb racing set to be on the safe side, plus some crash bungs either r&g or of same quality, plus venture shield on some of the possible touchdown down points like the rear cowl

    Already got ventureshield on the bike ... I don't want to install crash bungs as that means drilling fairings and think it looks dreadful. I specifically looked for a non drilled fairing Fireblade :D

    Full GB racing kit is what £200? Bit rich for three bits of plastic ... Are all three necessary?

    all depends on what side you crash on,I'm ambidextrous so like to crash both sides,hence I have protection all round ;)

    1 thing I would say though,go for the bullet sliders as opposed to the bungs,less chance of the bike flipping if it goes into soft ground and digs in.they have saved my bike from a lot of damage in the past,and you then just need to replace the plastic slider (about 13 quid).

    you know the crash bungs/mushrooms you usually have sticking out of the fairings to protect the frame/fairings.well same as them just smaller and don't protrude as much,almost flush with the fairings but just enough to give protection

    Never understood Peeps who say this?

    No Bungs/Sliders and you Fairings fucked for defo so take ya pick?

    You may as well not bother with any protection in that case and take ya chances.

    There is a big difference between shagging the engine cases and damaging the engine and a few scrapes on the fairing ...

    Spend £80 on bungs to drill £250 fairings just doesn't make sense ... However, protecting the engine does given its value.

    If I could find bungs that don't require plastics drilling then I would put they don't seem to exist.

    So I think plan will be GB racing protection kit with R&G bar ends, fork protectors and swing arm protectors

    R&g do a set you don't have to drill for though. Iirc they are about £250 though! I gave the go engine case protectors, they are great things. Occasionally come up second hand too if you're patient.

    Or do what I did, buy a spare set of plastics. If the worst happens they probably cost less then your excess. If you never need them you'll probably get your cash back.

    Wish I did this!, Buy some Chinese fairings and bubble wrap the OEMs.
    In terms of protection the touch points in a slow/medium spill are the lower sides of engine casings, bar ends, tips of levers(even shorties), topside of tank, pegs (front and rear) , top edge of upper fairing and the sides of the tail cowl.
    Likelihood the tail cowl will be smashed up, and you will land on the nose cracking that and taking the mirrors with you.

    My recommendations (as a recent veteran!) are:

    GB casings - these will get you home!
    Paddock crash bungs
    Do not remove the rear pegs - they actually provide a lot of protection
    Folding levers - the OEMs will break at a designed point but they only leave an inch or so of leverage.
    Fairing bungs - your choice, it depends how you fall, they could prevent/minimise damage but they can dig in increasing the risk of victory rolls
