Hey all. I am really interested in your experience guys about what mods do you recommend i should do on my fireblade for a track day. The bike has all the standard fittings however a little extra here and there would always help. I dont think i want to make it into a track bike so dont go crazy!! :-D Let me know your thoughts...thank you
Get yourself booked on a trackday and get your suspension set up while you're there, the best £40 you'll spend on the bike. Andy B
For your first time as the blade is a track weapon already take your number plate off fold your mirrors in then go and have fun .Sure you can start looking at tyres/suspension if you want to do more trackdays but for your first few times in novice no need to do much to it. Get your tyre pressure lowered when you arrive on track the tyre lads there on the day will advise on what psi is best.
As Jase said, its all you really need for your first tracks day, maybe some crash bungs in case you slide it down the track. that's all I did on my first one Oh and Suspension day set up is good too £40 and you can take it back to them all day until you get the best feeling
And if your not use to getting the bike 'up there'? cover the speedo up you'll shit yer pants, Seriously though, it's One less thing to distract you while having your fun. Most important thing... Enjoy and don't forget the pictures/video/write up
In my opinion these are the main things to check (I might have missed one or two things) but the blade is ready to ride fast on track straight out of the box so on your first day just make sure it's prepped for some hard riding: Basic track day prep: Tape up lights fold/remove mirrors tape over speedo adjust & lube chain correctly ensure suitable tyres are fitted lower tyre pressures (ask tyre guys for advice) check all oil levels remove numberplate 1/2 piece leathers with 3/4 (minimum) waist zip. If you want to improve your bike then these are what I think will make the biggest improvements for the least amount of effort OR money: Suspension set up on day (best value for money mod you'll spend on your bike) Track specific tyres (or wets if req'd) uprated brake fluid In depth mods i'd recommend as the first things to do for the track day regular to make you're bike a proper weapon Braided brake lines (I only bother with front) Improved brake pads Track fairings quick shifter quick action throttle upgraded suspension Dynojet/ecu flash/bazzaz or similar Race Rear sets (if your not comfy or need more ground clearance)
Having worked as a track day instructor for 2 of the biggest track day company's in the UK, my advice to you would be tape your mirrors & lights up (if you can remove the mirrors, even better), see the tyre guy and ask about recommended tyre pressures for the day. If you can get your suspension set beforehand, then that's a bonus. Try and get an Instructor to go out with you for a couple of sessions to show you some lines and build your confidence. Don't worry what's going on behind you, just Whats going on in front. Don't get spooked when someone comes past a little too close & fast, just concentrate on what you are doing and you'll be fine. The main thing is to enjoy yourself. The best Mods you can make as a novice is probably not something for the bike. I'd spend my money on good tyres, tuition and track time.
Yeap, tuition sounds good and is something i've been thinking for a while now. Brands Hatch is close to me so i might book this when the weather gets better.
