In the process of giving the bike a good once over (inc oil and air filter service) and have just lifted the tank and noticed what looks like a missing drain/breather hose from the left side (as you sit on the bike) of the tank.

What's confusing me is I have 2 hoses that poke through the bottom of the side fairing, both of which are connected to something. One is a coolant hose, the other is a narrower hose the connected to something under the tank. In the service manual it states I should have 2 hoses at the bottom of the fairing.

So my question is - where is the missing hose supposed to go?

Here is the connector for it (white plastic):

Here are the 2 hoses at the bottom of the fairing:

I think it's hose number 35 in this schematic - can anyone confirm?

It's obviously been missing since I bought the bike about 18 months ago. Is it likely to cause a problem riding without it connected?

Hi mate - as I am going through the same procedures, I there is indeed a third hose that should go out of the side of the lower fairing which would attached to the White connector as per your picture. I believe this hose drains off any overflow from the petrol filler cap, so this hose would be useful to have as it would drain the fuel away from the engine.

Out of interest, does your air box have the black duvet looking thing on it that sits between it and the tank? I forgot to put mine on, and now having put everything back together am wondering if I need to bother?

The black duvet looking thing or Air cleaner mat, without it you may get a rather annoying rattle that comes from the air box hitting the tank. It got louder as the tank emptied when I left it off mine and as soon as I refitted the mat the rattle stopped.

I'm pretty sure I only have 2 coming down that side also mate, and 1 goes to the petrol breather. Ie number 35.

It may just be pushed down the side a bit and needs to be pulled back up and reconnected.

The problem is, as soon as you lift the tank up, it pulls the hose up as well and away from any accessible space. I actually pulled mine right out today and had to feed it back through from top to bottom. Once I could see the hose poking through the bottom, I connected it up the top to the White collar and as I lowered the tank to secure it I pulled the hose down with it. This allows you to feed it through the fairing, but also prevents the pipe from kinking.

I thought the duvet material was for sound proofing but maybe it is anti rattle - not forgotten it so no idea about a rattle but its possible I guess

deffo 2, one from the coolant expansion tank and fuel breather. The second hose with the small nick is proabbly the hose you need to reconnect. It routes round the front sprocket cover up into the tank recess.

OK, well it looks like since mine is an ABS bike it's different (why am I not surprised?). It looks like ABS bikes should have 3 drain pipes/breathers. I've now traced the 2 I already have and one goes to the coolant reservoir and the other goes to a joint which goes off to the rear ABS power unit. That pipe that routes down the fairing and out the bottom is number 16 on this pic:

So it does deffo look like I'm missing a hose. Don't suppose anyone knows the diameter needed? It'll be the pipe that ISN'T the coolant breather/overflow on a non-ABS bike. I could do with the pipe in a hurry so I can put the bike back together and rather than have to visit the local Honda dealer (who will then have to order it in) I'm gonna see if I can get some the same size from elsewhere...

That'll be why I have only 2 now then, as I junked the whole ABS system.

OK - this is getting weird now. I've just been on Lings Honda parts site and the pipe I need is shown in the drawing for an ABS bike but is not shown in the parts list underneath. I'm starting to think this pipe doesn't exist! Check out the link (for an ABS bike). The pipe is number 35. Note how it's not listed underneath the drawing....WTF is going on!?

Pipe 35 is just the breather for the tank.

Right, but now I've seen it missing from the Lings site, I'm not convinced there is a pipe at all on ABS bikes. I've just ordered some 7mm rubber hose from ebay and will fit it anyway. Hopefully that will be end of the whole mystery!

Yeah - let me know if you have 2 or 3. If you have only 2, then one will be coolant and the other will be rear power unit and I'll be even more sure there isn't one for fuel breather on ABS bikes.

The two I have are deffo a coolant res overflow and the other from the tank. I've stripped the bike down and routed to the source for both pipe.

Not at home at the mo but will check as soon as I can.

I honestly think that 1 of the pipes you have there in your pic is the 1 that goes to your tank.

Deffo not. I've traced them about 10 times now, just because I thought I was going mad and missing something. Just done it again and video'd it:

You can see the 3 part junction that the smaller tube connects to (I shine the torch on it at 1:45 in the vid). That goes off and disappears under the rear power unit for the ABS (as in number 16 in the pic I posted earlier). The other one is deffo the cooland res breather. The mystery continues....
