There's a couple of firms on eBay doing made to measure leather suits round about the £200 mark seems decent leather 1.3 mm worth a punt or give them a wide berth

I wouldn't trust it at that cost
I would say its more about the stictch quality than the leather
Personly I would take the risk free option and pay extra for a name.

There's only one way to test a set

There was a thing on TV this week (never saw it myself, BIL told me bout it) this guy was making £400k a year selling second rate leathers. Imported from taiwan or somewhere and retailing for a couple of hundred, and the 'leather' (if it was actually proper hide) that he was using was very poor quality that you could tear with your bare hands. All sign written Honda, Suzuki etc. Wouldn't take a chance myself, could be a similar material being used here!

Are you referring to Fake Britain that was on BBC1?

If so, they did not tell you the whole story and 99% of my comments were cut

yes. It was filmed in January last year (2014) and it was repeated for the third time earlier this week.

I was asked to make comment in my capacity as an independent bike clothing expert. Took over 7 hours to film for 90 seconds of footage shown, but they deleted the main message I was trying to get over as it did not fit in with the ethos about what was fake and what wasn't.

I think what TC was trying to get at is most at that price is no good but the program made it out to be just the "fake" stuff (Yamaha, repsol etc) but there is plenty others like the design your own and other no name stuff is just as crap

Because it is cheap does not mean that it will not protect you.

I can give you examples of some very expensive branded items that I would not give house space to, and some cheap items which are superb value for money and knock some of the expensive stuff into a cocked hat.

At the end of the day it is about buying what you can afford, what fits and meets your criteria and expectation.

If it is made of leather, it is going to offer a darned site more protection than jeans and trainers, and if it only does its job once, it has done what it was designed to do even though it might get destroyed in the process.

Bear in mind that 90% of leathers (including the expensive brands) come from the same factories in Pakistan and I have in the past brought a suit that retails for over £1,000 here in the UK for uner £50 direct from the factory, and it came off the same production line as the expensive kit.

I've been looking at janman leathers, seem to have good reviews, full Repsol suit about £400 but just not sure. They are made in Pakistan, but order via a US web site, communication from the company has been good and some favourable reviews on the US fireblade forum but just not sure if I want to take the risk

TC pass on the factory details to me pleas :) I know alpinestars suits are made in China says so on them! The factory racers suits though are all made in Italy to order so certainly not like for like but guess the processes they learn in racing make it to China one would hope.. Not sure where Dainesse suits are made
