Front axle removal

    What size hex key do I need to take the front wheel out please.

    I don't have one, if you keep the female hex side locked up on the pinch bolts and undo the pinch bolt on the opposite side where the 21mm nut (maybe?) is then loosen with a socket then finally undo the second set of pinch bolts and tap the head of the 21mm until the female hex slides through enough to pull it out.

    I take it there are no threads on the axle near the hex end.

    Nope. Also there is no risk of damaging the spindle as when the pinch bolts are loose the shaft should slide with a few gentle taps.

    like already said you don't need a hex.Its only threaded on the nut side

    I got one today from Halfords - think it was about a fiver.
