I'm thinking of changing the standard chain for a 520 and probably go up a tooth on the rear. Can anyone recommend a good quality kit for chain splitting/riveting at home? Cheers Simon
Stick with the stock 530 size dude you will get so much more longevity than going 520. The DID replica chain breaker riveter tool works well, and compliments a DID chain kit too!
Cheers - its going to be a track only bike with less than a dozen outings per year - will longevity be a problem?
I just use a grinder to get old chain off and a drift/punch on new link. My mate has a snap on/blue print one and I didn't think it was that good to be fair
As mentioned, angle grinder to remove the old side plate, although I then use a G-clamp to pop the other side of the link out. Fitting the new one will depend on the type of link. Soft links will do up with a basic tool or modified G-clamp, but the harder ones will need the proper tool, so I took my bike to the local garage to do up for a fiver. Size wise, it's a perfect time to change the gearing, but when it comes to the width you have to question how often do you mind changing the chain as you may well end up changing every year with a 520.
530 seems excessive to me as it's like a ship anchor chain. 520 is great for track and if it can handle 200+bhp bikes it's fine for a Blade but you will lose some longevity, although my sprockets wear out before the chain. Maybe a 525 is a nice compromise. Although I'm not sure if anyone does one as I've never looked.
Bay item number: 191223686595 Have a look at these, gearing and pitch seems to be spot on, they do other colours too !
On a similar note, has anyone got a chain riveting tool or what have you that I could pop round(*) and use if they didn't mind? I have a shiny new DID X-ring chain sat here looking at me but no way of fitting it as yet, except for a trip to a garage of some description... Ta! *South / South West / South East London or Kent
