Its my first proper trip on my bike and I am off to Buxton and Wales. I had planned to just take a waterproof rucksack as i really dont need too much but what are peoples thoughts who have more experience than me? I was thinking of tail bag but worried about marking the bike and the hassle of removing it every time we stop for drinks.

Done rucksack, pain the arse imo unless for real lightweight stuff like phone, wallet and clear visor etc.

For that I'd be taking my Kriega us10 or 20. All ya need. 30 secs to fit each day and keeps ya stuff dry.

Buxton!! Pack plenty of waterproofs & your wooly undies :)
I sometimes use backpack but it can make my back ache so I think for 3 days I'd go down the luggage on the bike route personally

Kriega 20 tail pack. Waterproof and you'll not need to take it off every time you stop, I don't anyway. Get a bit of webbing on fleabay for a couple of quid and cut to suit.

    Car.....

I went to Assen on the bike last year for 3 days and got everything in a Kreiga R30 ruck sack. Not saying I wasn't glad to get it off but I wasn't going to risk scratching the rear end of the Pani.

If I had the choice I wouldn't have a back pack. You have many options open to you and they need not cost a fortune. I find a cheap waterproof tail bag and a Small tank pack is ideal. Tail pack for your underpants etc, (Not many have them on the nick list, I have been on a fair few runs and not had trouble) and the easy take off tank bag for valuables.
    Enjoy your trip.
    Mike.

As said backpacks can literally be a bit of a pain. I use a Kriega R30 for commuting but prefer US10/20 combinations for longer trips. Also have a Renntec rack that I've yet to fit to help secure them rather than using the rear seat.

A question with the tail packs can you ride withthe bag removed or do you have to remove all the clips as we will be based over night and i will not need to have it fixed to the bike only there and return

There's different systems but yes you can remove by unclipping etc.

I've got a Kriega and I used it for a Cornwall trip. Absolutely brilliant kit. Not a single mark on the bike and I didn't even notice it was there when I was riding.

If you want to keep it totally off the bike and really stable, then kreiga and rentec is the way to go imo.... Stape solid and no marks!! :)

Got full Ventura kit, 2 different racks, 3 different size bags for all occasions.
    Worth checking out all options.

I have only done one trip away and that was at Easter when we went away to Scotland for 3 nights. I bought a Kreiga R30 rucksack and once it was on and the straps had been adjusted correctly after the first fitting I hardly noticed it was there. The weight doesn’t sit on the shoulders and is spread across the chest and back. No aches and pains and it was good for high speeds too.
Didn't fancy putting a tank bag tail pack on the bike and the rucksack does me for when I go to work etc.

Tried the tank bag and rucksack. Definitely invest in a tail bag.
