So... having had two older fireblades (RRY and RR1) and a short term cbf1000, got used to the engine oil inspection window, two simple marks. Really easy to check oil level.

The RR12 has a dipstick that looks like it goes into the engine at a 45 degree angle, so the oil level you see on one side of the dipstick isn't the same as the level on the other side of the dipstick. How do you know which side is correct?

On mine, the oil level seems about right, and since I know I changed oil 5 weeks ago, with exactly the right amount, its certainly not going through oil.

I wonder why Honda didn't continue with the inspection window. Considering almost everything else on the bike seems so well thought out and engineered, this one thing irks me. Arghh... I'm getting old and moany :)

Anyone else think checking oil like this is awkward?

Find it quite easy myself. Dipstick has writing on one side and hi lo marks on both. Sit in bike and insert dipstick to check, simples. On my 600RR with the window to check oil myself I had to have it level on front and rear paddock stands, that was more of a pain.

I prefer the dip stick too, found checking the sight glass a little precarious.
Unscrew dipper, wipe insert tilt bike to vertical and check easy and safe.

The actual level is line at the middle of stick, I just make sure the top never exceeds the max

3.5 litres is it? Which on my current consumption means around 30 miles to empty.
