I've got an 600rr with pilot road 3's and currently run the book pressures 36/42 which to be honest, with my limited knowledge on the matter feels a little twitchy mid corner to me sometimes. I was speaking with someone from michelin who said taking in to account my weight etc (14.5 stone ish) that it was likely that the pressures are a touch high (road use)... Anyone have any thoughts on this, I was considering lowering by say 2PSI? front and back? Any help is appreciated.
The blade works well within quite a large spread of pressures and will vary dependant upon ambient temp and use. I'm similar weight and run 34 front and 32 rear but am comfortable with 36/36 but rarely higher.
do you take pillion or is it just for your self? I run 35f 36r on my road set up, which feels good one up
The recommended tyre pressures in the owners manual are based on a bike 2 up. To help compensate the weight going into the tyres from 2 people on board. I generally run 4 psi down on my rear tyre @38 and 2 psi down on my front @36.
I run 32psi on my PR4's. It's what I was told to run them from cold on a track day, but they still get warm on a run, so can't be far out.
a little confused her pal. is your question related to a 600 or 1000? if you weigh 14 st then on a 600, I would not recommend lowering the pressure. on a 1000 assuming you have adjusted the sag correctly, dropping the rear to 40 is safe for road use. make sure your weight is not shifting (both on the seat and the handlebar) around which is the most probable reason for mid corner twitching, the tyres are not always guilty
Hi mate, thanks for your reply. It's a 600RR. It's possible, every day is a school day as they say. Is that set up not slightly on the hard side? I was under the impression those pressures are on the safe side to cover absolutely everything including pillion etc.
you haven't said what tyres you are running. sometime tyre manufacturers recommend different pressures to the bike makers. suggest you check their web site first just in case. low tyre pressures on normal road can be A problem as the tyres never warm up enough to build up the pressures or if you are stuck at red lights or traffic jam then the pressures drop. tyre wall at lower pressure and high speed move a lot and can break up. if it were me and wanted to experiment, I would change pressures by 1~2 psi, try it for a week and decide which way to go. TBH there is magical answer as there are a lot of factors affecting your bike's behaviour. But I would make sure the sag is set up properly for you as a rider
55f / 80r for me. All of my fillings have come loose and my testicles resemble two small meaty pitta breads but I get good edge grip.
See original post mate - Michelin PR3's. As I say on Mich's website it says the same as Honda, however when I spoke to Michelin on the phone they said they believed it possibly too hard but couldn't advise on what was required..
I feel insultingly obvious for pointing this out but......ya know......the world is full of morons. I would never put that much pressure in my tyres On a more serious note I knock a couple of psi off each tyre and run 34f / 40r.
i know and hope nobody took you seriously but as you say you never know... i'd like to see someone trying it should be funny to watch the ride
In the summer on my days off & for blasts out I run 36f 38r which feels the best for me after tweaking around with other pressures...however.... in the winter & for commuting all year I bump back up to 36 42 because it wears the tyres less at this & I get thru 3 sets a year as it is!
