Had a really fun day watching the gp at silverstone yesterday with the good lady. We watched moto2 race from copse corner where the valentino fan club sits. Then watched motogp and moto3 from beckets. Never seen so many bikes go down in one place. The rain didnt let up all day but even though it was my first motogp I loved it. Fair play to sam lowes even though he went backwards from the start he clawed his way back up. Zarco rode so well I couldnt see anyway touching him as soon as he made the break. Rabat was wild in the wet everytime he came round turn 1 he was losing the rear but just kept it pinned. Shame to see the young brit bradley ray crash out in the early laps. The motogp race was epic crutchlow got off to a mint start and after a cpuple of laps in he came round beckets hot on the heels of marquez and rossi with lodenzo dropping back. Saw him get taken down by miller on the big screen then he came round on his soare bike to where we were stood on his outlap and lost the front sliding past the grandstand on his ass. He really is tiny. Pol espargaro followed on the same corner (going into maggots) he was going really well until that happened. Every lap rossi and marquez where gapping petrucci and the others. Kept on looking like marquez was going to make a move on rossi, they get so close in the wet its unreal to watch. Looking up at the screen and marquez high-sides out of turn 1 leaving rossi out front with a race to lose. The followers did reel him back in but he rode faultlessly and with such class. Well deserved win I was buzzing!! For the moto3 race the heavens really opened. Vinales got of to a great start followed by danny kent. Still sat at beckets and seeing them come round into maggots we watched lap after lap as they all chucked it down the road. I dont know how well it was televised at this corner but we must have seen at least 15 or so crashes in this one race all at one corner. They all seemed to lose the front when trailing the brake on the right hand side and letting off to flip to the left. One guy went down three times!! Anyway all riders seemed ok and vinales got bitten too leaving danny kent in the lead by 10 seconds. He received massive cheers everytime he came round and looked so smooth. He took the chequered flag and wrapped up a great weekends racing at his home circuit. All in all a mega weekend and despite the weather i loved every minute of it. Can rossi win the championship? I really hope so!!!
Great write up mate and glad you enjoyed it... You should go to a euro one in the sun. Great experiences. def got to do Mugello before VR46 retires
I was at Silverstone on saturday , practise an qualifying. Got free entry an parking as my best friend is a Marshall.
Have to agree with tyke great racing yesterday! watched from a few places for different races and rossi rode out of his skin when marquez was behind him. Danny kent had a great race and deserved the win in those conditions. Felt sorry for the red bull rookies riding in the worsening conditions with very few people left watching them
why do they run it this way at silverstone?? Every other is moto3..... As it should be. Build up to the main event etc.
Probably because there aren't enough exits and most people leave after the main race so staggers the exit traffic jam
Sucks for the poor lads in moto3 hanging it out in the pissing rain and everyone walking out of the grand stands
Totally agree! Their loss though as they could have watched our next gp champion winning on home soil
Exactly!! Pisses me right off.... If it was a world class kid (which Kent has been this year) making a England debut from his pampered £200k a week premiership existence.... And actually on the verge of winning something which Kent is also... The media and public would be in meltdown.... This lad has to make do so the traffic (or whatever the reason is) can be eased. This is why we don't have the same talent pool as the Spanish and Italians.... MM was a national hero in 125 and moto2, not just MotoGP.... As was Rossi! And yes I appreciate these lads on many occasions come from privileged backgrounds, but many also give up everything to go racing..... Yet don't get the reward they deserve. Rant over
The comentary mob said it was due to the euro to uk time difference so the main races would be shown on the euro tv channels at the normal times as they would during a euro gp race weekend! Dorna doesn't want to piss off the European fan base or the euro broadcasters so they just piss everyone else off!
Danny Kent ALMOST binned it in front of us a Luffield with about 5 laps to go , huge slide getting back on the gas. He kept riding on the white line each time on exit Under cover grandstand , big screen = winner
Donna have openly came out saying they don't want anymore uk riders in the MotoGP paddock and what they really want is American and German riders so it ticks the sponsorship boxes for that area when the circus turns up! It's all politics and who generates the most money to viewer base, Dorna in the past paid and leaned on teams to take on uk riders as there wasn't enuff to meet the viewer base and sponsorship money coming from the UK.
i was at silverstone, full weekend and over 900 miles round trip on the blade, soaked tae the baws on way down and then again today on way back up the road, but had a great time
cheers for that Tyke. Last time I went was 2011 and took the family. We drove up early on the morning and enjoyed it
It was my first time down at Silverstone, I had tickets for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Missed all action on the Friday due to work however saw everything Saturday and Sunday. Travelled down from Edinburgh on the Friday with my brother and got set up late Friday night at Litchlake campsite. Saturday was perfect weather, warm and sunny with a slight breeze, enjoyed all of the action with chilled Guinness from 9am till about 6pm when we went back to cook dinner. Race day was immense, the rain certainly made for good races. Top ride from Kent bringing home the win, massive cheers every time he came round and well deserved. Highlight of my weekend had to be seeing Rossi win, the seats we had were in the Suzuki stand at Copse A next to the Rossi fan stand, perfect view of the celebration. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and I will be making my way down South for more bike racing events more often.
