has anyone successfully removed scratches from clear visors?

MY shoei clear visor cost £45 to replace (didn't think of it when I bought the helmet:(

Not tried it but meguiars do a clear plastic cleaner and polish which supposedly removes fine scratches.

Could it be the same as headlights?

Wet & dry sanding, then polish out. If you have a polisher?

Too harsh in my opinion unless using something like 3000 grade wet n dry. There are 2 x compounds I have tried for plastics, the first is called Displex and I used to use it many moons ago to refurb mobile phone screens when they were plastic not glass, and the second is called Xerapol which is advertised for caravan windows and motorcycle screens.
Toothpaste is very good and can recover car headlights which have gone yellow like the Suzuki Vitara and Renault Clio.
Meguiars make ScratchX to remove fine scratches.

I needed some help with scratches on my screen a while back..

Tried various compounds, cleaners, toothpaste and ended up with xerapol which worked the best for me. It's not a perfect finish but fine for screens/headlights etc. I don't think I would bother trying to get a clear visor as new, have a look on ebay there are always people selling unused clear visors as so many helmet deals come with dark ones anyway.

Have to agree with MJP. A visor is an optical component and even if you got it looking right you are likely to suffer from weird glare from oncoming headlights.

I tried to recover the black visor from my old Shoei XR1100 when I binned my Gixer, it was full of scratches but I could not get the gloss finish back whatever I tried. I did get the scratches out though.

    in the end I took the plunge and got a genuine shoei from FC-moto @ £36 (c.f. £45 )
I couldn't find alternatives for xr1000 and would not have risked it because of shoei dedicated pin lock

now I can do some experiment with some of your suggestions on the old one
