My bike has been sat on the optimate since November, was thinking about starting it and letting it warm up for 15 mins or so, or should I just leave til I'm ready to go out on it, opinions?
best leave it, was talking to a engine builder last week about this and he said leave it. full tank of fuel, optimate and will be fine.
mines on an optimate, i too was advised to just leave it, with only 24 miles on the clock she still needs to be run in, and firing the engine and leaving to tick over till hot has no benifit, so iv'e been told, what i do is plug the optimate in for a week, then unplug it for a week, switch the ignition on to take a bit of juice out of the battery so the optimate has a bit of work to do when it runs its checks, so i reckon your in the same boat, we will have to wait for warmer times to hear the Blade awaken from its winter hibernation But it Will be worth it
I used to start mine up just to listen to. Once fired the R6 up and just run it through the gears on the paddock stand, and no joke, saw 167mph on the clock. Then I bottled, lest it fall of the stand and try make its way out of the shed
Also Very important final thing to remember while in storage Do not run the engine for short periods of time over the storage period, this can lead to condensation due to engine and combustion byproducts in the oil.
Get out and ride it, otherwise do not start it for short periods as this does indeed cause condensation and does not burn of hydracarbons which polute the oil which is corrosive!!! Every pint of fuel burnt equals about a pint of water created in the process, so cold exhausts allow water which has not been heated to produce steam to collect in the exhaust system.
I start mine sometimes to show off to mates. It like lettin em sneak a peak of the mrs in her Knicks lol
started mine on saturday ..she purred and then said ride me baby ....so i did hope she enjoyed it as much as me
I to was told by honda it's best to leave it if i'm not planning on riding it, due to condensation. won't be long now and hopefully the weather will start improving so we can get out. As much as i'd love to be out on my bike, the salt on the roads and the metal on the bike don't mix!!!!!!!!! i like my bike without rust lol
Just starting a bike and letting it run wont get it hot enough. Just idling dosn't disperse the heat properly aroung the engine so when it cools it will cause condensation inside. Also just letting a bike idle isnt good for the charging system.
Na fook that i start mine when and if i want and tbh its run up to temp probs once a month 6 weeks or somert! Not been funny but if that fooks my 11 grand Honda then there shit end of
i started mines at the weekend, let it run till the fans kick in a couple of times, i have always done this with all my bikes, about once a month or so, never done any harm before
