    Anyone o here with Bennetts??

Just got my renewal in. No surprise it has gone up. However I was reading through the documentation they sent through and I came across this statement:

    "Compulsary Garaging Requirement
Section 1 of the policy booklet will not cover you for theft or attempted theft of your motorcycle unless, between 10pm and 06am. It is kept in a locked building or garage whilst at your place of residence or at another address which has been specifically agreed with us."

Anyone have any idea what this means? Sound to my like they don't seem to cover you whilst your at work and you're bike is kept at home.

It says the bike has to be garaged overnight between 10pm and 6am if it is at your home, of another place if you have said that is where the bike is normally located overnight i.e girlfriend's, parent's etc.

My father in law lost his insurance pay out on his Merc when they stole it off his drive, as it was down as garaged and he hadn't parked in the garage that night! They use it as a get out clause that's for sure

I have one bike with Bennetts, but hadn't paid close attention to all the clauses. By the sound of what happening, I could be in for a surprise at renewal time:(.

Just had my renewal from them, up from £292 to £510!! Errrrr I don't think so. Got it down to £238 with MCE just on compare the market. Also want to try Bemoto and Mackenzie/Hodgson Insurance too before I decide.

This years renewal from Bennett’s £188 fully comp. Last year £185. I can understand the slight increase with inflation etc. My flippin’ council tax has gone up £5 a month and now they make you pay a one off payment of £35 to empty my green (Garden Waste) bin.

I'm with them, I think this clause is a pretty common one, think Carole Nash have a similar garage requirement dependent on distance from your house. I assume it's to cover them so you can't lie and say its kept in a garage to reduce the premium if it's not.

You're still covered at work, travelling and when your out on it etc.

I am with Swinton this year. £163 fully comp.
Doesn't include pillion, which I have still to add.
Wasn't there something with MCE where they didn't insure you if you were on the Isle of Man during the TT as well ?

I used to be with MCE about 3 years ago too, but think this only became an issue within the last 2 years.

Trawled thru the small print & it appears you're ok at the tt. It only applies if you're riding on the road when it's closed. So unless you're a rider or marshal etc you're fine.

I have been with bennets for a couple of years; the endorsement including garage close varies depending which underwriter the use for your quote.
On my RR8, the garage clause is as you described. So between those hours, if the bike is at the adrress where is it normally kept, then it must be put away. Of course if you are away from the adress/ home, then the restriction does not apply. E.g you are away with the bike for few days. Mine also requires both ignition key to be submitted in case of theft.
Still with bennetts but for my XTR, because the underwriter is different one, the garage clause is if the bike is in the vicinity of the kept address, then if must be in a locked garage otherwise the my excess doubles in case of theft but no mention of submitting any ignition key.

so it is a very confusing, complicated world:(

Anyone noticed the steering lock clause that is now on a lot of policies, on my bike (MCE) and car (RAC)

If it's stolen and the lock isn't on then the excess increases.

Right, with the new blade I had to do some jiggery pokery on insurance policies.
So now both bikes with MCE.
I noticed, as standard, they now include for taking your bike on track for trackdays and the likes.
Includes Isle of Man without question, as well as breakdown a step standard too.
Also noticed Honda have an app for emergencies that tracks where you are for recovery vehicles to find you.
Can also alert you to important dates such as services, mot, etc.
And MCE were the cheapest too.

I saw a comment in a magazine the other day that if you have the ground anchor & chain in your garage but your chain is thru the wheel & not the frame some companies won't pay out! Amazing what's hidden in the small print

The other side to that is that the policy holder gets bugger-all discount for having the ground anchor in the first place - and then they'll get shafted for not applying it in an 'approved' manner!

I am convinced that a consortium of Insurance companies conceived the cliche: 'a win/win situation'.:mad:

When I last insured my 7R with Carole Nash the chap on the phone advised to not record that the bike had an alarm immobiliser as it made no difference to price but if I couldn’t produce the official installation cert they could get picky. I assume he was sacked shortly after for giving good advice :D.

That's why I declare my bike is kept on the road with only a disc lock even though it's hidden on the property out of sight with disc lock + almax chain through ground anchor with 2 padlocks and another chain.

I want to avoid all that nonsense with insurance companies in case of theft claim.
