Hi All, taking my GSXR 600 on a track day at Donno on Thursday. Typically how many miles would you get out of a full tank at high revs (on a 600). I've been riding the GSXR at high revs recently on road to guesstimate fuel usage. I got to about 100 miles - so would expect this to be much lower on track. Say 80 miles. The track is 2.5 miles long - so I'd get about 32 laps out of a tank. Sound right?

Say roughly 2.45 to 3 mins per lap. So i'd be doing 5 to 6 laps per session. So looks like i'm going to have to refuel at least once (maybe twice) on the day.

How much is fuel at Donno circuit?

You've put a lot of thought in to this. I would say around 2 tanks worth, which you can buy on site. It's a little more expensive at the circuit, but not significantly for a bike. You just need to work out if you are going to brim it (not recommended) or do a splash & dash.

I work on full tank and a 20 litre jerry can, normally I aint got much left after 7 sessions:(

That's based on 1.47-1.50 min laps on a 06 fireblade

Those times make me wonder if Singhy's bike's running on only 3 cylinders:D.

Just do as above and you'll be fine. Fill up the bike. Take a standard 20L jerry can and you'll be coming back with fuel, especially on a 600. Also, Donny isn't a particularly thirsty track anyway so you'll be fine.

Fuel trackside is normally expensive, and sometimes hard to get hold of. Fuel guy might only serve up some of the good stuff at a certain time of day etc.

I work in IT so sometime gets a bit carried away......

How much is it roughly at Donno. I haven't got a 20L Jerry can and was planning on riding down. Also why not brim it? in case you go down or left with loads of fuel at the end??

Hee hee - was being conservative. Go on then - what times are acceptable for a noob at Donno? I've done Ron Haslam in the wet. But Thursday is looking good on the weather front

Shit, I dunno. I can't even get out of my driveway in under 2.45. That's just me goofing off once again.

I admire all those who track their bikes and take the risk of a possible off - and the not uncommon situation of being 'taken out' by another rider.

A lot of folk don't brim it so the bike is lighter, if you have 5l of fuel in rather that 15l there is a difference

Personally, I fill it up and top it up 5l when the fuel light come on

I did think from your post that you'd be riding there.
I don't know exactly how much fuel is at the circuit, but when a tank normally costs around £15 it can't be much more.

My thoughts about not brimming the tank are not so much the weight, but more to prevent any spilling out, although splash & dash is easier when you've a trailer and a boot full of fuel.

It's been a few years since I got caught needing fuel. (Forgot my jerry can!) But I recall it being about 50% more expensive at the time. On a bike that's not the end of the world really. However I would consider my point regarding how it is not always easy to get fuel. It's not a petrol station at the track. It's one pump, normally in an obscure corner somewhere, unmanned.

Do yourself a favour and buy a jerry can. You'll pick one up for a fiver second hand.

Donington has a small petrol station on the Melbourne loop side of the paddock with a few pumps and is usually manned. (was last year, don't know if it's changed). Think some places like Cadwell can be a bit hit or miss fuel wise.

It is a bit more expensive, also can't remember if it's only higher 98 octane fuel that they sell. Prob best to take cash, they might have joined the 21st century and take cards now but I wouldn't count on it :).

Singh1000RR - if you are planning to ride down it's only a few minutes to nip into Castle Donington at lunch to fill up if you don't want to at the track. Or at the MOTO Services after the Airport, but this is probably as expensive as at the track. :)

On my 7R I usually fill mine up just before I get to the track and usually fill up again at lunch and have enough to get back to Derby afterwards.

Give the MSV track office a ring, they'll be able to tell you if the pertol pumps will be open.

But as TrackdayCharlie says, take a Jerry can if you're going up in a van as it's less hassle.

Was as awesome day - mixed results. The novice group was flooded with proper racers. There was a no-limits race on Saturday 19th at Donno so they used the 17th as a prep day. There was guys going outside and inside of me down Craner's with knee on the deck!

I was only a handful (<10) that actually rode to track. Most turned up with vans and trailers loaded with tyre warmers, track only bikes and some even had support crew!

Considering I had a 600 with "sporty road" tyres and no warmers my best lap was a 2:07 which I was pleased with. Got both knees down! (just)

Loads of red flags - think every session was red flagged! The pro's spoiled it for the novices group.

JFYI - the fuel was £1.35 /ltr - so not mega expensive.

Glad you had a great day Singh. Novice to me means it is your baby steps with regards to track days. I would be well pee’d off if the wanna be crowd ruined it for me. Thankfully they were the ones who ended up in the gravel.
