Ok folks need some advice As the title suggests, I can't get the dam thing off. I have tried the strap method and an oil filter key and nothing is working. Any ideas of how to get the bast@rd thing off. No idea why its so dam tight as the manual states it should be 17nm Its a Yamaha MT-10 and this is the first ever service since I bought it Cheers
The way I do it if it’s stuck, bike obviously has to be warm 1) get some rubber like an inter tube around the filter then put the strap on, make sure the filter is clean so the rubber doesn’t slip and just turn 2) pierce it with a screwdriver at the lower end of the side of the filter and shove the screwdriver through gently the through the other end of possible then turn. But be care full you don’t aim around where the stem sits, the part you screw the filter on to Best of luck
Alwayed used oil filter cup removal tools with good success. I think its the same as the Honda CBRs 65mm 14 Flute, But double check
I think it was overtightened as the the the previous tools wasn'y budging it and the socket thingy just kept spinning round on the filter. I ended up buying this ratchet bandy thing and I had to tighten it up till the filter was distorting and then give it a yank to get it to free up. New one is on and i screwed it in all the way by hand then slipped the tool on and just nipped it up with a quarter turn. All good and no leaks.
Oil filters do have a nasty habit of getting themselves well and truly stuck sometimes. I always fit a K&N filter as they have a 17mm nut welded to the top of them for you to get a spanner on.
I have used those K&N filters before. Really handy. However the bike is still under warranty and I need to use all manufacturers parts etc at least until the warranty expires.
