So as you may or may not know .I have an 08 blade ...It was bought as a replacement for a gsxr 1000 K5.
My issue is I'm not happy with how gutless it is below 5k. Obviously due to emission laws etc but it's crap. I even road my wife's sv650 back to back and that felt like it had more balls than the blade. My bike doesn't have a fault. It's just how it is. But what can I do about it .other than ride everywhere at 6000rpm.
Some threads on here about a remap .but would that bring the power in lower down? Or my other thought is a bigger rear sprocket.
Have you guys sorted this ? Is it a common issue? I'm aware the bike is a missile when you ring it's neck. I'm just dissapointed it's so flat at lower rpm.

I've done Google research and it looks like 2 up on the rear is the simpler option. Not sure if I can go 2 up with the standard chain though.

Really? May I ask why you don't that way? I guess the ratio of one tooth down on a 16 teeth sprocket is more than up one on a 42 ?

Just the way I've always done it and how every one I know does it. I might be wrong but dropping 1 on front is like going up 2 or 3 on rear.

My 600rr at min has 1 down on front and 3 up on rear.

You might wanna get a speedo healer if your changing gearing

-1 on the front tends to be similar to +3 on the rear.
At one stage I tried -1 on the front, and +2 on the rear on my 04 blade, but found it a bit too flighty! +2 on the rear was a nice compromise. Thankfully Honda have added more midrange on the 12 bikes, and more again on 14 bikes, so I have not felt the need to change again.

before I bought my cbr I looked on the internet and it was one of the selling points for the cbr its low end grunt. I had a 2002 R1, How disappointed did I feel when I got my 2013 cbr, I thought someone had put a 600 engine in at low revs compared to the R1

Same as.. I'm getting used to it and I've changed the gearing ...but must admit to being a little disappointed. Glad it's not just me.

My bet is the fuelling has been modified. In standard form the engine has lot's on bottom & mid range torque.

The racefit does not help, but even with std exhaust it was not as good as the R1.

when do u mean theres no grunt, coming out of a slow sharp corner? I found low revs in 2nd gear took a bit to pick up again when I bought it, so I had 2 options, drop into 1st for the corner or keep the revs higher in 2nd entering the corner, I prefer 2nd gear so keep the revs higher, get on the revs sooner, I go out with bmw, r1s and so on and they cant keep up on the twisty stuff and not much quicker on straight, yes their quicker in the hands of a pro, but on the road in the hands of a mere mortal not much difference, sports bikes want to be revved, I also found when u have a loud exhaust u think your screwing your bike when your not even close, making u change up a gear putting your self in the wrong gear, the blade is so useable on the road for a sports bike, use the revs and the right gear, no way there gutless

Interesting perspective @roboticus . Whilst I haven't ridden an R1 (or R6) on first read it surprises me that there would be such a noticeable difference in 1000cc motors. I haven't even looked at torque comparisons, but your mentioning the gearing might be bang on the money - although I don't question the diagnosis of both @Jez and @Bikeboy .

Only last week I posted of my riding my MV, returning, and jumping straight onto my Blade. Both 1000cc motors, but different beasts entirely in degrees of performance. And that was due almost entirely to gearing.

I actually tested the CBR and R1 on the same day before deciding. The CBR diffiitely had a slight edge on grunt even at road illegal speed

From the complexity of fueling & exhaust system of the bike and countless "bike not running well" issues I have come across on numerous posts, the biggest culprits in my view are mods done to the fueling & exhaust system

in my eyes on the road there not much diff between a 600cc and a 1000cc, u just changing gear a lot more and hitting the revv limit a lot more often, with a 1000cc riders tend to get lazy, I was following my mate on his s1000rr last year round Windermere and a sharpish left come up and he ended up on other side of road, when we pulled up I said what gear where u in he said 3rd, it was a 2nd gear corner with the speed we where going and the higher revvs I wanted, the bike turns better in the lower gear with throttle open, if its sluggish out of corner drop a gear next time and roll the throttle on mid corner, I put my mates miss gearing down to the Austin racing gp exhaust, he thinks hes at 11000 rpm when he's only at 5000rpm because of all the noise,
