I recently had a small crash, in April.
I had just left home, rode for 260 meters, was still "sleeping", cold tires, was doing about 40 km/h. In front of me were 2 cars, and at the intersection a car merged from the right, "cutting off" the cars in front of me, that had to brake, causing a "chain reaction". Had to brake on top of the crosswalk paint (again), and the rest is history.
Bike still bumped the car in front of me, cracking the front fairing.

I know a lot of people that see this crash will immediately say that I just fully grabbed the front brake lever, but, it was really not the case. That paint is just slippery as hell.

This resulted in small damage, but in many parts. Nose cracked, and "road rash" in the side fairing, tank fairing, rear faring, bar end and clutch lever.

Now I took the time to have the fairings repaired and repainted. While the fairings are being painted, I got the bike serviced and had some goodies installed.

Got the red radiator hoses, plus an IRC QuickShifter, and inverted the GearBox. Due to the last, had to cut the cover, and made an attempt to close the hole using a bit of plastic. Not looking awesome, but well, it could be worse.

I also went to change the vinyl wrap of the undertail, but once I removed the old vinyl I had a bad surprise... It was going to take a lot of work to make that part "straight" again.

Luckily I had around a new stock undertail (new version, 1 solid part, instead of 2 halfs), and got to work. HEre's the result

However, looking at that last photo I realized that my smoked tail light turned "green" over time... Since I still had my old tail light that was replaced because the lenses was not so clear anymore, I tried to "refurbish" it, polishing the lenses and getting tid of that chrome in the interior plastic.

No it just needs to be fitted!

While I'm waiting for the fairings, I'm also going to take the time to give the bike a proper wash, cleaning those spots that are hard to get when the fairings are mounted.

Once the bike has the "new" fairings, I'll post some photos with the "end result".

    Sad news on the crash.
It's obvious from this thread that you take a lot of pride in your bike; as well you should it is a lovely looking machine with lots of nice extras.
That tail light looks like it has come out very nicely as well.

Thanks mate. Yes, she's my pride and joy, the misses keeps telling me that I spend too much money and too much time with it, but, honestly I don't spend money in anything else really, so... :p

Forgot to mention that she's currently have 83.500 Kms. This year was the worse parts-wise, since I had to replace the starter motor, stator, chain tensioner, drive chain and just last week a new battery. On top of that, a full fairing repair & repaint, so, yeah, this year is taking a toll on the wallet...

Anyway, here she is as it stood before the crash:

And as she stands now (yes, I'm riding her just like that):

Extras not insured... bike neither. :(

Here in Portugal those kind of insurances are only for brand new bikes. Very rarely an insurance company insures a pre-owned bike (I got her in 2010, 2nd hand), and even when they do, they cost a small fortune.

Nice job on the tail unit........not so nice crash though:confused:

Everytime I've been abroad and see guys on bikes on those greasy hot shiny roads it makes me cringe......open roads I should imagine are fine but those little urban back roads like your on.......jesus, they are slippery enough in your trainers!!!

Hope you get the bike put right ok:)

Yeah... Roads in Lisbon are mostly very slippery (at least compared to proper roads). Since I pretty much only ride to commute, it's something that I learned to live with. However, this time it caught me off guard.

Bike will be "finished" this week, fairings are repaired and painted, but i'm currently enjoying holidays, will pick them up next Sunday and will put everything together Monday or Tuesday.

    Thanks mate.
Will post some photos regarding the paint later. Needs to be in direct contact with sunshine for us to be able to see the full effect of the paintwork.

Can't seem to get a photo that shows what the human eye can see...
However, this video is pretty close

Video quality is not that great, but since I only want the footage in case of an accident, it does the job.
