I have just seen the article on the new bikes and Honda have said that they have put the throttle and fuelling right on the new model , so are they going to sort the issues we have found with these on the 17/18 model ? instead of people having to get the bike on a dyno at the cost of £390 to sort these out . I think its a bit piss poor when you pay nearly £20k for a bike .

I have posted extensively on this. It requires a 2019 ECU. There is no mod (according to my correspondence from Honda UK as of 22nd December) to make these revisions 'backward compatible'. I have put to Honda UK (rather facetiously) the prospect of my buying a 2019 ECU and having it fitted and tuned by dealer. The question is clearly above them because even with a follow-up email they have chosen to not reply. I was going to give it until Friday before I phone them again.

You're right though; this is piss poor. The modifications are not necessarily an 'improvement' - there are a rectification of reported problems, and as such should be handled under warranty. That is my case to Honda UK. Realistically, I hold little hope of success, but I HATE being silent on these things.

What do we have to do? Honda totally ignored something as serious the ABS issue.
How many of us actually have the throttle problem?
Even Bike mag has mentioned it on the standard 'Blade.

I'm still on the case. Phoned Honda UK who claim they didn't receive my email. Strange, given that I have their reference number for it:rolleyes:.

They're going to get a tech to phone me because this is WAY above the knowledge of some customer service officers who barely seem to know what a friggin' Fireblade is! Will update the expected 'fob off and patronising apology' later on!

As you all say’piss poor service’
Yamaha has a transmission problem but recalled
Ducati’s v4 has had numerous problems but put right at first service or recalled and put right
Honda what problem?? The brand is a joke at best and most of you are paying for it with your brand loyalty.

I have watched quite a few 2017 standard and sp on the dyno on you tube and they all say the same that the fuelling is miles out and the throttle is the same and really snatchy , but after the dyno they are spot on and some that have had them done says it feels like a different bike , I have also sent an email to honda uk .

I haven't experienced the throttle problem yet.....As I haven't ridden my new bike since I've owned it!o_O only 6 days ago though.

What should I expect when I do take it out on it's maiden voyage?? Can't be that bad .....can it???

I notice it at low revs ie coming up to roundabout or in slow moving traffic it just seems to feel as though the bike is struggling for fuel or summat on holding the throttle at a steady speed , so you need to give it a bit more throttle , but my 13 blade was spot on and wasn't like this . don't get me wrong I love the bike and if it means getting the ecu done in spring / summer to iron these out then so be it , but I just think honda should put there hands up and do the right thing

Don't be put off, or even expect problems. Just ride as you normally would without looking for something.

Some of us have noticed minor throttle 'uneasiness' (as opposed to a problem - for me anyway) and other report no dramas at all. I have become accustomed to mine, so some are merely a learning/familiarisation curve.

Interesting what @keithg1748 says about dyno on You Tube. I'll have a good hunt later, but in the meantime, this is perhaps one of the most informative. Most tech detail toward the end of vid.

Okay. Y'all can say: 'We told you so.'

Honda UK called me back today to say that the 2019 ECU is different to the 2017 - 18 and can not be installed in our machines. When I expressed disappointment and the fact that the 2019 ECU resolves problems of the 17 -18 I got the corporate: 'I'm sorry to hear that and we apologise, but there's nothing we can do.'
I went on to say that the dealer cannot 'adjust' ECUs so our only option is to attend a 3rd party tech for reflash etc. The parrot echoed: 'I'm sorry to hear that . . .'

Not to be outdone by these nonsense-bearers, I then said: 'In that case, I would consider trading in my 2018 SP2 for a 2019. Will any be available.':D
He trotted off to consult whatever or whoever and replied: 'We don't have any information about 2019 SP2s.' Frig me:mad:.

That actually prompts the question though: 'Will there be a run of 2019 SPs? I guess that's another phone call or email, or, I might just quiz my dealer tomorrow. On second thoughts, I will. (My new tyres need a run!:))

    Stay tuned.;)

good man , I received a similar reply in an email today saying we are sorry you are having throttle issues with your sp , if you take it to your nearest dealer and they will have a look ( not free im guessing ) and they will explain if they can do anything with the ecu or if the 2019 is able to be ut on yours , so I think they are clueless and don't have a clue , lol

Cheers for that, Ian. I hadn't seen any promos for a 2019 SP so glad to see your link. Not sure, but I think the rec. retail for the 2018 was 19,500-ish. @PauloHRC got in at the right time because I suspect he did better than that!!

Hi Kevin. No, although I hardly remember riding mine:rolleyes:;)!

However, I did make frequent mention that the throttle-by-wire was less responsive than conventional cable. On reflection and after some miles, I put it down to rider familiarisation with the new bike/fuelling system rather than an actual problem. Certainly, there seems a micro-delay in response, but it's more like the difference between a 'normal' throttle movement/response compared to a quick-action throttle.

There might come a time in summer when I might consider a reflash, because I have learnt this will unleash a lot of Honda's 'hidden' goodies within the ECU, as reported in the post #11 video above.

Ouft, haven’t been out on mine yet and I’m already worried about throttle issues

Really hope mine is alright, response on my 14MY bike was sharp and is what I’ll be expecting with the new bike

Don't be surprised if it's a bit worse. I had a 2012 before, throttle on that was faultless. Throttle on my 2018 is best described as iffy.

First of all many thanks for the great efforts of the forum members who have contacted Honda UK regarding retrofitting the 2019 upgrades to our 2017/8 Blades.

I just want to add that I was in contact with Ten Kate Racing in Holland yesterday to see what they could do with the 2017/8 SP2/SP and stock 1000RR.

They seem to have a good knowledge of the latest Blades and have a very good track record (pun) in Europe.

Apparently the the 2019 HRC CPU will be retrofittable to the 17/18 blades BUT ... it will need a mod to the wiring loom which they can do or requires a new HRC loom. However the deal breaker for me was the shocks would have to be modified for manual adjustment. Probably great for the track but I quite like my e-shocks for the streets so a no go for me.

They didn't know a this stage if the standard 2019 CPU could be retrofitted into the 2017/8 bikes, as it's obviously still early in the 2019 production. May be worth a prod in the future if Honda UK doesn't come forward with any solution.

Here is the TKR website if anyone wants to pursue this route

    https://www.tenkateracing.com

So as it stands it looks like a remap is my best bet for now but I'll continue looking at options until spring when I get the bike on the road again.

btw my '18 SP2 throttle response seems consistent but I can definitely detect a (Euro 4?) flat spot around mid rev range in mode 1.
