Hmm first time I've seen that, it was minor but he was moving, he said he didn't move.......he clearly did!o_O

Oh well onwards and upwards Cal:)

I hadn't seen that view either. It raises two points:

    The view makes the grid look slightly uphill. I understand this could be due to the camera mount, BUT, if it is even slightly uphill, that removes any suggestion of the bike 'rolling forward' as has been stated;

Compounding this is the action of Cal's left foot. You will note no movement from the foot and ankle joint. This, to me, negates his statement of balancing on his foot and rolling.

The final upshot though is that the movement is still minor and there was no advancement over the white grid line. The penalty remains disproportionate to the alleged offence.

His wheel moved, no-one else had a wheel move, and this isn't the first time he raced there. It may seem harsh but the rule is there and people know it before they go on the grid. Cal made a mistake and the penalty for that mistake is a ride through, doesn't matter if it is only a small wheel turn, it is still a jump start.

If it was another "unfavourable" rider I don't think many would be complaining.

Oh whilst I agree no doubt it was a jump start, they have introduced the penalty lap which is a few seconds longer, surely that could have been used instead of the ride through on one of the longest pit lanes on the calendar.

The difficulty is where do you draw the line between a minor jump start like Cal's only getting a penalty lap and a major jump start getting a pit lane penalty? How about a half wheel turn is that a minor or a major? How about a half second jump which puts you at the front giving you at least 3 laps before you have to do the penalty lap?

Simple rules work best as they remove, or significantly reduce, the arguments around interpretation. Not playing Devil's Advocate, just like consistency, even if it did rob Cal of a podium.

Maybe if progresses past the white line, it's a pit lane penalty. Then could do it on time? So if less than 0.1 second before the lights, two laps around the penalty loop etc. I understand both sides of the argument though.

I reckon one time around the penalty loop is sufficient, I've only seen Fenati use it up to now and he didn't even need too!!

Pit lane ride through is a race over job, the loop is only a few seconds if that. That would have been ample punishment but at the end of the day he moved, sort your clutch control out Cal ;):D

If his wheel wasn’t already on the white line that slight movement wouldn’t of triggered the sensors?
A few around him are a little further back in there markers, maybe for that reason?

I am more interested in why such a talented guy like Zarco chose such a continuation of his career? Only money comes to mind

Well if he would have stayed with TECH3 he would have ended up on a KTM anyway so...……

Plus I don't think he had any other options so while it may not seem like a good move at the moment, I think KTM will come good!

I reckon the reason for the harsh penalty is to avoid chaos, as one rider moving can set off another.

On the drag strip - jump the green light and you are disqualified.

Yeah, what a change to see someone else up front.

What was the issue with JL99? ...I watched a replay of the Dorna feed and there was no real mention of it.

I think Honda might be tight lipped.

Can't stay on this thread too much because I'm having flashbacks of mouthing off how JL99 would be a consistent top 5 finisher. Bloody hell, he can't even make top 15:(. But there is hope:).
