    On my 2010.

I've got a strange noise coming from the bike. Almost sounds like a knackered bearing kinda noise but it's intermittent. It only makes the noise when in gear and driving and even then not all the time.

If it is making the noise and I pull the clutch in it stops immediately and then comes back when I let the clutch out.

Sometimes I'll be riding along in gear with no noise and then it just starts.

Higher up in the rev range I can't hear it. Whether that's due to the increase in noise from the engine or because the noise isn't there......couldn't say.

Anyone got any experience with anything similar? o_O

I have no experience of this other than it ringing a distant bell in my head regarding the Cam Chain Tensioner!? ...I feel like I've read on here about similar symptoms leading to the CCT being at fault.

I had something similar. When did you last change the front sprocket?

I never thought of that but, after reading some stuff on various forums and consulting with the previous owner, that could be the culprit. I still have nightmares about changing the one on my RR4

According to the previous owner it's probably only got 2,500 miles from the last time he changed it.

My 2012 has been doing the same for the best part of 30k been into 3 garages 2 of them couldn’t even here it.
I’ve had 3 cct’s and it’s still doing it, it doesn’t affect performance though as it’s been on he dyno recently with good results just annoying.

Yeah, the bike doesn't seem to ride weird. It's just an annoying noise. Almost like that noise you get when the brake discs on your car have got a bit rusty and you apply the brakes for the first time.

    +1 on the Tensioner hypothesis.
Also, if you change the Tensioner, go ahead and change the cam chain as well.
Had to change both on mine last year, similar symptoms.

Here's the Honda Part Numbers for both:
    14401-MFL-003 - CHAIN, CAM (124L)
    14520-MFL-013 - LIFTER, TENSIONER

Just to give people a bit of a follow up on this one. The guy who did the suspension work on my bike reckoned the chain was too slack so he tightened it up. Noise gone.

That having been said it was now replaced with a supercharger-like whine. I checked the chain and it was too tight. Slackened it off a bit and now both noises have gone :D

    I don't want to sound like a bastard, but wouldn't a regular chain check/lube have identified that?

It probably would have but you're talking to the feejit who mistakenly thought he'd put his bike on charge. If I can't even manage that, I've got bugger all chance with anything more complicated :D

In all seriousness though. I do check and lube it often. I just prefer the chain on the slightly looser side rather than being too tight. I was probably right on the limit at 35 mm, if I were to guess.
