Hey folks, I was wondering if anyone has had to have a second key made up, if so, where and how much was it? I somehow seem to have misplaced my second key
Had to do a Honda bike key a few years ago so this may have changed, but don'tthink it has. You will have to buy the key and responder, and then get it registered to the ECU so that it disables the HISS when used. You could try and do the ECU bit yourself if you can get the right cable, or just pay a garage to do it. Should take them about 30 mins so all in you are probably looking at around £100. Make sure you do it before you lose the other key as the process needs a working key, if not you are looking at a new ECU or a dodgy ECU reset.
£100? That might serve as a warning to ensure our second keys are well secured. Must admit I'm a bit haphazard with most of them thrown in a margarine container. (That's the pension for ya - can't afford real butter)
When I bought my bike it took me a few days to realise that the dealer had not given me the spare! They supplied a new spare for free; when I took the bike in for the coding I was surprised to see them getting right in under the tank to do it...then when it was all done the salesman came over and said "oh by the way we found the original spare" ..I've now got three. No point to telling this story on here other than I just remembered it
As an update, bought the key from the Dealers. Was £107 fully coded and cut. That will teach me to misplace them. I'll probably find it again soon in a various drawer or pocket.
Pretty close to my guestimate then I think the ecu can store 3 keys and so unless the garage wiped the missing one you will have an extra spare when you find it.
I got told if you lose a key they reprogram the one you have left and the new one so if you find the third it will not work. This is so if a stranger finds your missing key they can not steal you bike
