I will be taking delivery of mine, by the end of this month.

Mechanicals and electronics are excellent - no issues.
It is bat-shit fast. The cross plane engine sounds great when you wind it on, but give it lots of revs in any gear and you will be really motoring - even in second gear !

The engine sound takes a bit of getting used to, as it sounds quite lazy. If you are used to getting screaming revs to let you know you are going fast, then the cross plane crank engine sounds like a lazy droning sound - but it sounds great, but does not scream like other in line fours.

There are surely more sensible options out there, is what I have heard (also in my head !) - but I am going to do it anyway.

The other thing, that may help in your bargaining - is that a new Euro 5 compliant version will likely be produced soon, and so this model version will not have that much longer to run....

    My new un-sensible bike :D

Worth a look at the Missenden Flyer review, as it is a "normal" road review. I have found a lot of reviews just go on about track use

    His review here:

And the tank protector to go on it ...after looking at about 1,000 of them on line .....:D

It will look really cool on the blue tank - (IMHO :D)

Looks great Mattie (the bike, not the tank pad;)). Bet you can't wait. There's a heap of joy in a new bike. Video review was good too!

Hi All, I have also just recently pick up my new R1M after a good deal P/X against my previous R1.
As Mattie's video attachment above by the Missenden Flyer, Plus the 2018 models now includes an Auto blipper.
Only negative I have with the Yami is the wooden feeling brakes, high engine temps in slow traffic & visually the poorest quality welding on the rear swinging arm.

Mattie, I have gone for the Yamaha original equipment R6 tank pad & TechSpec side tank protectors.

The Tech specs tank protectors can be removed & re-attached a few times, (I used all the protectors lives to get them aligned).
I bought mine from Speedycom. http://www.speedycom.co.uk/shop/

Very nice but at £16.5k way out of reach, i have always liked R1s and love that rear end.

I have ridden a mates one and loved it.
Incidentally, been out on my MT10 again today, and with the Leo Vince baffled decat pipe and Scorpion RP1-GP can, that CP4 engine is addictive, especially when it is breathing right. The sound is to die for. Even in engine power mode 2, overtaking in 3rd gear and get it around 7k and it just lifts the front end at around 80mph! Mode 1 gets it wheelieing like a motor cross bike in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. R1 doesn't to do this, probably the retuned maps and heavier crank in the MT10.

I love my MT-10, which I leave in PWR1 all the time. Great fun hooliganing around. You can make it sound nice (engine revs wise) without doing massively stupid speeds - my GSX-S was the same - even doing 60-70 mph you could make it sound great.

The seating position on the MT-10 makes it is so easy to ride, filtering, A-Roads, overtaking, even sit back and lean forward a bit for motorway jaunts.

There is a little pause in the revs around 5.5k - that is your last chance to change your mind before it launches ! Outstanding bike.

The thinking with the R1, for me, is that the R1 is more focused - if that makes sense.

I am hopeful that the R1 can be ridden at (mostly !) sensible speeds, if you get my meaning. The MT-10 is a fantastic street bike, I am just hoping that the R1 is still usable as a street bike, like my Firebalde was. I will find out soon enough !

This chap (Spanish) did a review of the R1, and I think he got a lot of requests to not talk as people wanted to hear the bike. So he did a second gentle bimble around video, without talking. Just trying to work out if I can make a phone ringtone out of it somehow :D

R1 rn 32 or 49 are pretty dead on low/middle range , for me not the best for street use.
(that´s also why i modded the r1 engine in mine black mt10 , with different camshaft and mapping)

For me (Old Boy :)), The power from the R1 is more than plenty thorough the rev range, in any gear/rpm for road use.

I mostly use power mode -C- which I find gives smoother throttle response at low rpm’s especially when riding through the city, and general fast road touring.
Also mode -C- gives the same bhp at the higher revs as power modes A & B.

Should have taken delivery of my new R1 today - but I have had second thoughts.........
    ....(only about the tyres :D).

The stock Bridgestones look like street legal track tyres, so ordered some new Dunlop SportSmart Mk3 tyres for it - sold the stock tyres to John the mechanic who will be fitting the new ones - everyone happy.

I will be heading up to the Isle of Man TT in a few weeks time, and it has been known to experience a drop or two of rain in that part of the world:eek: - so figured to put some better road tyres on it straight away. Not sure what tyres you guys are using for the road.

So, new tyres will not arrive for a few days yet, so hopefully the bike will be ready for collection Friday/Saturday next week - about a week later than planned

    Booyakasha !:D

Last pictures, I promise - being as it is a Fireblade forum !

    Collected the bike yesterday.....

The new Dunlop SportSmart Mk3 fitted, and the standard original equipment Bridgestone RS10 tyres were sold to the head mechanic at the garage, before they had even been used.

Decided against putting on the Union Jack tank pad, because it is so big. So put the little one on instead, which came with it in the same pack. So put it on the bit of the tank that sticks out a bit. Stands out nicely against the blue tank.

    Happy days :)

Enjoy it mate, looks gorgeous! Will you be doing the same type of mileage as on the blade you had? Be interested how it fairs in comparison.

Well done, Mattie. Looks great and a lot more subtle than the Blades stripes everywhere!

I don't mind any kind of sports bike pics on a Fireblade forum. Bikes are bikes
