@tuktuk and I have had some recent eBay casualties.

Last week I sold my aprilia RSV and took a £50.00 deposit with arrangements for the bike to be picked up on the weekend. Buyer later called and gave me the vet bills and lost a family member story. I retained the £50.00 to compensate for relisting fees.

Relisted and sold again on Sunday, this time taking a £100.00 deposit. (I know these deposits are small, but I prefer to work on trust. For me, I'd leave nothing less than £500). Anyway, the purchaser arranged to collect Tues afternoon. He texted Mon evening and claimed he had an appointment he couldn't miss on Tues, so we changed the day to Wednesday afternoon. Just texted me this minute to say he 'forgot' that he was on afternoon shift tomorrow. WTF? Any of us who have worked shifts keep in mind the week's hours - especially in this case as he claimed to have booked a van for Wednesday.

Using my trademark sarcasm, I texted back and reminded him to cancel Wednesday's van booking. He's replied and said they haven't got one for Saturday so he's trying other companies. Seems to me as if he's pussy footing about to back out of the deal. I don't care either way - so long as he'd be upfront.

I love buying things, but I can't cop this selling malarkey!:(

Good for you keeping the deposits! These people need to learn their lesson.

People are so quick to waste time on there. I'm back to the simpleton questions and offers of swaps, even though it specifically says no swaps.

I'm very unlikely to use it again but I'm considering just leaving it in the corner of the garage and forgetting it's there.

I’d keep on listing it and taking there deposits, 6 months you will be able to keep it and have the funds for another. :D I don’t know how anyone has the patience for the muppets on eBay.

Sold it tonight for the third time - £4500 with £250 deposit.

Maybe something in the 'Third time lucky' cliche.:)

So did buyer number two tell you he was out and you’ve kept his deposit as well, or have you told him you’ll not be messed about refunded his deposit and accepted buyer number 3

    Precisely the latter.

I texted that two cancelled appointments give rise to the prospect of further cancellations. I refunded immediately. I'm not one to shaft a person, but I do like to keep control of my situations.

I never burn leads and had told buyer 3 earlier in the week that the bike's sold but there's some difficulties. When he texted me out of the blue this early evening, I said the deal's up n the air. He drove 90 mins to my home to view! Buyer 2 had committed to 4400, so I told buyer 3 that I have a deposit on the deal at 4500, but if you're prepared to go with 4500 we'll do the deal now.:) And that's what happened. So I got 4500 for it plus the retained deposit of 50.

Buyer 2 can have no complaints and hopefully (as its all looking positive) buyer 3 will come through for you hassle free

Selling on eBay is a nightmare.
For reason I really CBA to put on here.
Ebay reverses the Buyer Beware mantra. Definitely Seller Beware.
Too many effing dickheads out there all after something for nothing, and eBay sides with them as a buyer. Absolute Joke

My view also. When I advised buyer 2 and asked for account details for the refund, he merely texted account details with no other comment. That, to me, shows he didn't give a damn. Only later did he start some bitchiness by claiming the deposit made the bike his, etc, etc. I think this was merely an afterthought to show pretence of his sincerity. The biggest event for me was highlighted by his change of plan for Wednesday. As stated above, we had previously agreed for a 4 - 5pm collection because of his early shift. Only on Turesday did he tell me he 'forgot' he was on lates. Fair enough. BUT, I'm sure we would all agree that frees up the morning and given he had told me the van was already BOOKED for Wednesday, means it would have been simple to arrange collection for Wednesday am. Let us remember, when we buy a bike, we want it as soon as possible!

Buyer 3 is fine. Bought deposit cash on the spot, and he knows the owner of Aprilia Performance in Tamworth from where the bike has service history.

True, Kevin. I used to work in high-ticket sales (real estate/cars) and we had our own mantra: Buyers are Liars:). (Doesn't apply to me, of course;))

Not sure yet if there will be any flack over my withdrawing the sale. (I do have some conscience about it because I wouldn't like it done to me, HOWEVER, I can't see myself presenting a similar situation to a seller) I'll update this if I do have contact from eBay today.

Interestingly, buyer 3 came from my classified on the MCN sales site - and was the only respondent to that ad.

As for eBay, I have said before about the number of people who message for the sake of messaging: 'What's the mileage mate?'
'Duh, read the listing.' In the main, I have found eBay good for odds and ends, I have taken off crash bungs off the 900s and they sold very quick, as had most of the aprilia RS50 haul.

I rarely sell on e bay its such a pain with people not turning up ect . Old car I used to just go to work in sold 6 times before any one actually turned up and took it. An r6 I sold I got roasted on feedback because he said it had an oil leak and puncture. It had just had mot and service was 100% but he rode off and complained after 1000 miles and e bay withheld it. I've had pay pall payments held when I sold a set of one piece alpinestar charger leathers. Guy pay palled cash Inc delivery then said next day can I collect yeah of course. I gave him leathers and post fee back in cash and pay pall held onto cash for a month as I didn't have a tracking number and he didn't respond to any messages. Absolute sham. I'll buy odd thing but sell on wifes Facebook selling stuff or if its a bike then mcn or bike trader. E bay just dont care.
