Just gonna share this here as I wonder if people can be cursed when it comes to 2 wheels. As some of you may know, my lovely little 'blade has been a bit ill recently. She was off the road whilst a stressed mechanic with zero time, a frankly pretty shit workshop and finally a pretty awesome workshop took a total of 10 weeks to get my bike back to me. I picked up the bike Saturday. It is beyond fixed, damn thing is so much better that at any time i have owned it... But on the day I picked her up, slight issue with a screw. Nowt major, but needed to drop into a place and get it plugged. After that, several hours with no issue. Just 3 days later I went over something on a corner and made it a small hole on the side wall. No idea what it was. I had no inflatable foam stuff, and no puncture kit with me, but thankfully the new puncture was slow enough that I didn't notice until I got to my mates house, had a few tea's and was going to leave a couple of hours later. Rear Tyre was flat as a witches tit. Now, my mate has 4 bikes, so I asked if I could rob a puncture kit/foam and a pump. He has nothing! Unbelievable, and worthy of being called a git, but before I could berate him, he offered to lend me his Honda Varadero. What a top bloke! I could take his bike home, organise a fix and get mine at a later date. I got on his bike and pulled off. Got about 30 feet, riding like Miss Daisy, and it cut out and refused to restart! LOL. Damn thing just would not go, he tried for ages to fire it up, but we just pushed it back onto his driveway. He then offered for me to take his gorgeous pride and joy Triumph Cafe racer. I refused! Would have probably burst into flames the way things are going! Thankfully a 24 hour service station had the foam, so crawled her home on that. Bloody thing is only a few months old with loads of life, but being the side wall, and already plugged, thats another load of cash on her. Might start taking the bus.
Oh dear, sorry to hear that. Seems like a curse but it’s just a series of unfortunate coincidences....isn’t that a film? Anyway, get her new boot fitted and enjoy....when this felling rain dries up
They say bad luck comes in threes. You're on to the good stretch now. But, just in case, allow me to help: https://en-gb.facebook.com/pages/category/Footwear-Store/SHOES-R-US-1602503980075032/
Not just the rain either but it seems to have opened up the bloody potholes again...certainly around here Mostly the small deep ones they just chuck a few rocks in and roller over...talk about waste of money not fit for purpose!
The roads here are shocking too. We are told its because its hard to keep a decent road surface when you live in a country with varied weather, you know 18 degrees in the summer (I envy your mid to late 20's!) and about -5 in the winter. And I used to think they might have a point until I went around Europe, visiting countries that have 30 degree summers and 8 foot of snow in the winter and yet, strangely, they have roads like silk.
Interesting point, Andrew. It's like the railways stating trains have been delayed because 26 degree heat has buckled lines. I lived in Australia for many years and throughout 35 - 40 degree summers never was there a problem with buckled rails. Would probably be the same for other high temperature nations.
Exactly the same in the US....the Rocky Mountain states especially see extremes, yet the main roads are a joy to be on. I wonder if it's just cheap shoddy repairs over here. To add to the misery where I am it appears that Virgin are currently churning up every pavement/road and leaving a right repair mess to add to the potholes
Probably bang on. As councils and contractors seek to maximise profits, I can well imagine shortcuts being taken with preparation, mixes, and general care and enthusiasm of work.
or could it possibly be that we have a 65.000.000 and rising population, that has under invested in its roads for decades. It could even be a culture of lets not bother patching properly, because we know we have employed an under skilled & under productive contractor who would be on crap rates but makes up for it in extras and possibly back handers .. Who knows !
