For a good number of years? 9 titles... Doohan, 5 in a row before that?? Stoner is class... No two ways about it, but still a long way to go to prove he is at that level.... It's not Rose tinted glasses, Rossi has been and is great.... The others will catch up no doubt, but not there yet! Roll on 2012
Oopps opend a right can of worms here have'nt I, haha LOL !!!!!!!! Just to be clear I think Rossi is quite possibly the GOAT and yes what he has done and all his records and stats are extremely impressive but for me anyway he is no longer fastest thats's all, a personal opinion not matter of fact obviously. Regards 2010 and Rossi breaking his leg the first rule of racing is you have to finish to score points, IMO Rossi crashed under the pressure Lorenzo put him under, after all we never saw Biaggi or Sete trouble Rossi into crashing.
Rr8 your right - prob not the fastest anymore. But can't say others are better on there way up when he is on the way down... I like cans of worms, makes it interesting
I did'nt realise I had said others were better on there way up, if I did I will take it back, I genuinely agree I think we have be fortunate enough to witness something special in Rossi its just for me he is in the twilight of his career and there is no fairy tale 10th title IMO, but I will be gladly proved wrong.
I think Rossi is an incredible rider and was extremely successful, but unfortunately, I do not think he is the best now. As for the GOAT, it is so difficult to make accurate comparisons, the modern day bike has so much technology compared to the likes of Doohan's days for example, plus tso much else has changed such as tracks, safety equipment etc. The consequences of an off are usually far less than they were 20 years ago, so riders can perhaps take a few more risks and not be out for so long after a spill. It is also perhaps a case of who has the best bikes. I would love to see them all race on totally identical bikes for a season, with everything set on an even playing field, including the same mechanics. I do not think MOTO GP is just about the best rider, there are the bikes, the teams and the back up to take into account........not to mention the amount of money they have available. I really hope Ducati get sorted, the chassis seems to have been a big issue, I believe they have tried FTR but not sure what the outcome was. Ducati have proven race credentials and I am sure they will be back in the running one day. If you look at it , each manufacturer seems to have a period where they are superior to the others. Every dog has it's day, in 2011 it was Honda and could be again for 2012, but you can't rule Yamaha out.
