Is it just me or have others noticed that of late new members have a reluctance to post here, introduce themselves and post the obligatory photo ? Instead it’s straight in at the deep end ........ I must be old fashioned (or just old )
I dont post alot as I'm not riding atm and dont really have anything to I put. O do enjoy reading the posts..and comment when I can. I dont follow racing so cant comment on anything about that.so for me it's not really a reluctance it's just I dont have a lot to share.
It’s more (IMHO) your first ever post should be a Hi this is me and my bikes a ....rather than a buy this or fix that request.
It is good when someone does a Hi post with pics etc. Not mandatory and it doesn't suit everyone, but then some people just come on here for the techy stuff and aren't interested in the banter/thread drift. Horses for courses and all that, after all it is people viewing the site and the adverts that help pay for the upkeep.
Like @Bikeboy , I don't post a lot either. However, I think that most would/should? know the protocol of joining any forum or club is to make an introduction first. Some forums actually insist on it and have a period of so many posts before 'sales' can be advertised.
Therr is a rule about not posting sales stuff until you have done 20 posts, could be wrong on the count but it is there. Problem is with @sps170373 being our sole overworked active mod that there is no way to enforce this in anything like real time. Also there is nothing to stop people posting garbage just to get their post count up to the required threshold. As for protocol, well this is the internet and so TCP and IP are the only protocols that people have to follow I've been on forums that were tightly managed, they quickly turned into dull micro managed places where a bit of thread drift would get your wrist slapped. Tumbleweed could have circumvented the globe between posts come the end of the forums.
Yep 20 posts before you should sell something, I do try and manage it the best I can and delete threads I deem to be taking the piss! Had one recently where I showed him the rules as he hadn’t posted anything else except his for sale add and he quoted I was posting unwanted and unhelpful comments, so I deleted his thread, unfortunately I couldn’t ban him as don’t have that privilege
