Frame changed.

    I finally finished the frame swap yesterday, after a bit of frigging around with the plastics. The accident/recovery caused some tag & fixing damage but got there in the end.
    Started after the second whirr of the starter motor & runs through the gears on stands.
    I'm delighted with the outcome, especially as it was all done in my back garden in the open air.
    Only left with two, very small screws that should attach the belly pan, but the tags are broken so they've nothing to screw in to.

    That looks like it should and always nice to have no unknown bits left over after something like this. You must have a gazebo or such to have kept the rain off whilst you were doing the strip and rebuild the way the weather has been of late and all.

    What news with the US frame and DVLA?

    @Boothman. Cheers! Yes, always reassuring to be not left with 'spares'.
    No to the gazebo though, Oxford Stormex & a fishing brolly when the clouds opened, which is some of the reason it took so long.
    Honda UK have been great with supplying a certificate of conformity FOC. The year denoter on the US frame is '9', so I'm hoping DVLA won't be too fickle about me wanting a 2010 plate. Will be sending paperwork, a covering letter & photos off to them hopefully today.
    Can't wait to get back on the road mate.

    Only 2 wheee* bolts/screws left is good when you know where they are from.


    * so called because you look at them, decide not to fit them and so launch them backwards over your shoulder whilst shouting Wheeeeeee :D

    Ha! I was going to say that but wasn't sure if anyone would have got it. No offence!
    I had to drill a couple of holes & thread two small cable ties through instead. It was a bit fiddly, but they're quite discreet.
    The bike was bought from a dealer & went back for a CCT shortly after. The plastics fit better now than when they returned it!
    I'm so glad I went ahead with the frame swap as I had toyed with the idea of trying to get the cat B decision reversed, as there's absolutely nothing wrong with the old frame. But it gave me the chance to strip & clean the rear suspension linkages as well as find out about the rest of the bike.
    Will have the old frame up for sale soon.

    As a CAT B I thought the original frame had to be scrapped under the law by a registered party (as in an official scrap man or lady). I wouldn’t do anything with it until you’re all sorted with DVLA re the new frame etc.

    The insurance company just told me it could not be used on the road, so I was hopefully going to sell it as a track use only frame.
    That's sound advice mate. I'll wait until the claim's all settled & my bike's legal. I'll sell the frame with a copy of its original V5 & a copy of the insurance company's disclaimer letter.
    I don't think it's impossible to have the frame inspected by an engineer, perhaps from Honda(?), and have it cleared for road use. It might cost a bit but I'll sell for the going rate for a trackday only frame & let the purchaser decide from there.

    I think the assessor ....... being kind, was airing on the side of caution.........being realistic, a lazy b#57##d who should have done his job properly.

    I agree. However, as long as I get it re-registered hitch free, I'm laughing all the way to the bank. Bought the salvage for less than £500, frame & powdercoating £610, registration £55, new plates and a probable MOT £60-ish + road tax. I end up with a 2010 Blade with close to £2000 worth of extras on it for not a lot of money. I even re-used most of the cable ties when putting it back together! My life, Shylock!
