So, I'm getting myself all set up for a two week trip to Portugal in mid-September. Luggage is sorted (kriega tailpacks, SW Motech tankbag), clothing is sorted, bike is fit to go.
All I need to sort is navigation, for which I'm planning to use my phone, with a battery pack to keep it juiced up (don't have a plug on my bike).
However, trying to find a simple solution that covers every base isn't easy - I need a waterproof phone case (that I can use for other things like my windsurfing etc), I need a mounting system on the case (slim enough to fit in a pocket still), and a mounting system for the bike.

I came up with an elegant solution:

    1. Lifeproof case to keep my phone cosy and dry

    2. Quadlock mount to glue to the back of above case, & Quadlock 1" ball joint

    3. Ultimate Addons fork stem mount, with a 3" extender to fit 1" mount ball. (without the end adapter)

    Great!

But wait.... now that all of the above is ordered (except the Quadlock mount), I realise that the 3M adhesive tape provided with the Quadlock mount won't stick to the Lifeproof case, because its Polypropylene (a Low Surface Energy plastic), and LSE plastics are way more complicated to adhere to....
It looks like I might have to buy a LSE specific adhesive tape AND a primer to be able to use it. For another £30 or so. And naturally it only comes in units far larger than I need!

Rant over. Anyone got any ideas?

Use a mount with suction cup, attach it to the dash. Used that "setup" a couple of times.

    P.S. - Seen my message?

Where do you suction it onto? Covering the rev counter?
I have and just replied - it was very helpful!

Yes, covering the rev counter. Depending of the size of the suction cup, you can still see the speed. Donwside, you cannot see the reserve light... so... beware.

Thanks Spygoat - I've looked at these and seem to work well; I may end up going down this route! The reason I like the idea of the Quadlock mount is being able to pop it on my bicycles and other such things to use nav on them too.
It's a shame there's not a one-size fits all system. Lifeproof do have a ball mount system but it uses a different size to RAM.... (why?!!)

That was my issue as well. I researched for ages to find a single source solution. I decided on the RAM system because they sell every type of mount you can imagine and with 3 bikes, I have a base on each and just move the quadlock from bike to bike.

I've done as you suggest - hopefully should be arriving this week and testing at the weekend!

Ultimate addons do cases so why not use one of those?

Great big clunky things... that I can't really use for other things. For example, when I windsurf I keep my phone on me (in the lifeproof case) tucked in my wetsuit etc. The UA cases look way to clunky for that, the Lifeproof cases are really slim - can't recommend them enough (apart from their decision to use polyprop plastic )
