Some weeks ago I found I had a painful right wrist, right in the joint behind the thumb. Did the usual 'man thing' of doing nothing:), but found no difference after a week. Went to local GP in mid-August and was given a tube of Ibuprofen Gel and told to rest the hand. Ceased gym for 3 weeks - partly due to Dubai trip.
I queried the doc as to whether it might be the onset of arthritis, but was told it's 'just a sprain'. However, it's no different than when I showed the doc.

Now, this doesn't affect throttle/brake control, but is one of those annoying things that reduces my ability for simple tasks like unzipping jacket, doing up chin strap etc. Naturally, my greatest fear is of it getting worse and totally debilitating my right hand. My only thought at the moment is another trip to the local GP, but to see a different one.

Anyone suffered these symptoms and found a remedy? I also call out to my sports coach @Nytol for advice;).

(and please, no wise cracks about whose getting first dibs on my bikes - especially YOU @Spygoat with your beady eyes on my MV:mad:;))

I had the same problem Nigel so I started to use my left hand instead. Well at least it wasn't a wise crack about your bikes!

Well Nigel, you old git ;) I would say the first thing is your Doc needs to do a proper work up, X-ray and bloods initially.
I had something similar and right hand too, (so before Spygoat or anyone else joins in - I will freely admit there are 2 types of people. Wankers and Liars, and I don't tell porkies ) but I had the pain in the wrist and bottom thumb joint. Saw the quack and got an x-ray. Nothing wrong with you old chap?? Got bloods done...all clear, nothing wrong with you?? Still in pain and getting worse to the point I could barely open a bottle of water as I couldn't grip it. Undeterred I pressed the Doc and got - it could be an inflammatory type arthritis so got through to see a Specialist the next week. Turns out he diagnosed Arthritis, similar to rheumatoid type but not specifically that one but all the same cause and effects..
My overactive immune system is attacking perfectly healthy joints!!
Started tablets in December...virtually pain fee now and can grip as per normal again. Not saying its that for you but further testing needed for sure.
I guess that shocker was a big bit to do with why I got the blade after being away from bikes for a while - do it while i still can. :D:D:D

I've already got an extraction plan mapped out. Ready to go as soon as you're disabled.

As for the wrist, have you tried a brace to immobilize it so it can heal proper?

I have an old injury to my left wrist that I sustained while firing a weapon that wasn't properly secured. The magazine catch tore my wrist open and did a fair bit of damage. Every now and again it gives me a dull pain to remind me it's there. It only really bothers me on the Harley after very long rides as the clutch lever is fairly tight.

Mate of mine has it in some fingers on his right hand. He just takes some MTFU tablets and keeps riding :p

Keep it warm is about the only thing, the rest is just Mother Nature's way of telling you she is keeping an eye on the clock!

Do you mean at the base of your thumb? If so I have a similar problem. It feels like a bone going in/out of position. Can hurt and go away again.
Age related arthritis can be a cause but don’t let your gp off the hook. X Ray is not appropriate for delicate & small hand bones.

    No, I haven't.

Would it have to be Virgin or Extra Virgin, or would any old layabout fruit do?;)

I have changed my gloves as I have carpal tunnel issues. If you get off your bike and see pressure marks from the glove seams on you hand next to your thumb joint it could be similar to my experience. I have now got some larger oxford gloves and my thumb is a lot better.

have to say, things like this have started worrying me, i have fluorquinolone toxicity syndrome (thanks to the NHS) which means my Achilles tendons are really swollen and sore, and likely to rupture, also caused something i cant spell in my heels and ball of the foot.

in my hand, i have duypertrens syndrome too, courtesy of my viking ancestors, which means my right hand wont open properly.

anyway, im just putting up with it, because its been good not having been stuck in hospital for such a long time

I am always wary of those who have an injury or ailment I can neither spell nor pronounce. Sorry @blink , but I think I might maintain some distance now - unless you come good with a slice of your Christmas cake!:);)

My christmas cake will be soft and moist, just like Fanny's

Neither are communicable, first is caused by a sort of intensive chemical based antibiotic, and duypertrens is a hereditaty thickening of the tendons in the right hand

Absolutely love Xmas cake, the marzipan is awesome. I had one from Iceland just week...ok it was from last year and a little bit past the sell by date but I still scoffed the lot! As long as you still can ride and bake cake then life is good, eh? ;)
