Diets and exercise....I really can’t be arsed everything in moderation and enjoy life now, all that effort to tag another 5 years on yer life when your knackered anyway.
It's really not just about adding years. It's about adding quality years. We live longer now than ever but we live sicker. We take all manner of drugs to fight this and that but a lot of us do little to make sure that we are in a condition to live a full life right the way through. I see people who are saving money in pensions to enjoy their retirement but aren't making sure that they're physically able to do so. I'm no triathlete but I saw this picture a while back and it stuck in my mind. A scan of the legs of three different people. Who do you reckon is the most likely to have mobility problems, require care and walk around the their house with an alarm thingy round their neck to alert someone if they have a fall? I know I'd rather do 45 minutes of gym work 3 times a week than end up like that.
im doing it for a few reasons, partly because i felt like it, and i got results quite fast, so it gave the impetus to carry on. Hitting 19 stone was kind of a thing, and i was eating until i felt sick, then feeling guilty, then eating more because i felt bad! I used to take medication for GORD, that has gone now, completely, dont need that at all now, so thats something good, and was expected right from the start. as far as my appearance, there are lots of people (im talking gay men) that have a thing for the whole bear look, and I started fitting into that, so felt good about my appearance, maybe using it as an excuse, but looking back now, I just looked fat, my face got fat too. So, I took a photo of myself the other week, just after i got home after a ride, unzipped my leathers, so they were hanging round my waist, took my tshirt off, and took it from above looking down at me, and I thuoght i looked the best i have looked in years, so I made it my profile pic on grindr, and the attention its still getting is amazing, so clearly bears are less popular than thin hairy bikers Anyway, thats whats got me wanting to go further, and the reason for this post. The new target of being able to tuck a shirt in without it holding my belly captive is because i saw someone dressed like that, and thought it looked good, and tried it myself and i look good. (im not being an ex-smoker type of judgemental sort now because i have lost a few lbs btw)
oh, and this is a bit of a concern im having problems now with my knees and feet, loading them up with a bag of sand isnt going to make them better. My dad injured his back when he was young, and it was hard work for him all his life because of that, and my mother. I dont want to be in that position due to self neglect. I just hope I can keep it up
My wife and daughter are both doing the Slimming World thing and both have lost 22lb and they don’t stop eating! It doesn’t make sense! Wife has been a fad dieter for many years and never stuck to any of them really. This time her head is in it and it doesn’t seem like she is even trying. It’s not all health food either but regular stuff, but the right stuff. Chocolate and crisps etc can be eaten and taken as sins of which your target will dictate how many are allowed per day. Personally I had a cardio vascular health check last week, I’m 5ft6 and 94kg but built like a rugby player with a muscular top end, my BMI was over 30 and my cholesterol is high but not so high to refer. My heart age was projected as 49 and if I can get my cholesterol down to an acceptable level it would be 47......I am 48 so BMI means feck all in my opinion as it doesn't not take into acct shape. One thing I will add is when I failed the Chester step fire team training for work I was told I had to target my cardio to pass the test (never even felt like a hard test but they stopped it due to heart rate) I decided to get back in the gym using the cycle and weights and in my own time used the bike on the tracks locally. I lost a stone got my cardio up and pass the test but on days where I couldn’t use the gym for any reason I’d feel guilt for not going. Just take the advice on here, register in the gym and get a session with the trainer. It’ll make all the difference.
My weight has crept up since plantar fasciitis (right foot) has pretty much stopped me running since 2015. Maybe just a simple stretch or something will square it away. I am a tight Mancunian so refuse to pay someone mega dollar to say just try this and for it to do nothing. Any ideas?
I am 5ft 8 and 77kg not to bad but I do watch what I eat also use the turbo trainer in the garage every week day before work sometimes a hour sometimes 30mins now the winter months coming I usually can get down to 74 to 75kg as not out on motorbike at weekends I do a 40mile pedal on a hilly route...size 50 dainise leathers I have recently bought there is no room to pile it on keeps me motivated to keep it off ....
Dessp2 I would rec a turbo trainer pop the road bike in an follow the GCN cycling videos on a I pad with headphones on or go up and down the gears to your favourite tunes,...like you I used to love running but about 3 yrs ago got a tear behind the knee so still healing and cycling is low impact plus you will find it helps your balance and leg strenghth when you jump on the blade
Try this guys recommendations. A few of the replies state it fixed it for them. Let us know if it works.
I've just been back to the gym after nearly 2 years out following getting knocked off the commuter and busting my knee. I've always struggled to gain weight, probably a natural 10 stone! I was up to just under 14 stone before the crash and loving the gym lifestyle, felt strong and healthier carrying a bit of size, clothes fitting well etc. After the crash my knee was so bad I couldnt put weight on it for ages and it was months before I could walk normally so naturally I'd lost a bit of size plus still didn't feel like I could exercise on it. Anyways fast forward to now and I'm about 10.5 stone and weak as a kitten. I feel sick after squatting just my bodyweight on the bar, already regretting signing back up for 12 months!
Good move Tuk. Don't stay away because of 'comeback soreness'. Go back and work through it - if only with light exercises. You'll recover quicker that was and maintain enthusiasm.
Cheers Nigel. I'm not going mad this time, previously I was all ego, lifting more than I should have been for my size thinking this is how it's done but I need to be more sensible, not expect results overnight and not care what other in the gym think of me shaking like a shitting dog trying to do a bench press
Best of luck with the weight management. I am 5'10" and 12 stone, so as usual, I will be of no help here. I can add, though, that when I was extremely fit (job demanded it) we ate loads of lean protein, very little carbs and didn't drink alcohol. Sweets were a very rare treat. We also had peppers...all kinds of peppers with almost everything we ate. Someone better versed than me can probably comment on why, but the nutritionists told us it was a natural fat burner.
I have made it to 15 stone now, 95kg, so I have lost 25kg, effectively, i was carrying a bag of cement around with me! I do have a proper before and after pic, but since you wont want to see me posing in a yellow jock strap, ill spare you all. Here we go, before and after, with clothes
the truth is, i took that pic because i bought new Osiris oh, those jeans, i bought them when I was 18, and they were too small to fit so never wore them!
