Bought a 1992 Kawasaki Zephyr the other night. Bought as a project between me and my dad, kind of a kick back to his Z1 and now his Z900RS. Should be picking it up next weekend, mechanically I’m lead to believe it needs a fuel flush out and carbs cleaning and balancing (I have access to a micro sonic cleaner at work hopefully it won’t be too much of a chore) otherwise it just needs a fork seal, a tail light bulb and a general cosmetic tidy up (paint and polish up). Not in a rush to get it done, more of a reason to spend quality time with the old man than anything. Hoping to keep it as original as possible but may machine a few trick bits up for it If parts aren’t readily available. Once completed we will be looking to either run it for a year or two and show it at some shows or sell it on and get a bigger project - (providing we don’t get bored and it doesn’t end up in a few boxes on the garage floor!) here’s a few prior pickup pictures, happy to keep this thread updated with pics etc as we get started if anyone wishes to read/find out how we mess it up!
I had one in the 90’s, lovely bike and well done on finding a good project, looking for something similar. The engine case and other shiny bits were the Only real weak point, hint of salt and mines went white, however all that is easily sorted, especially in a project but apart from that it was really one of the first true retro themed bikes and reminded me of my Z650. Great thing to do with your old man too, cant put a price on that time, i would give all my bikes away for one evening in the shed with my dear old dad.
100% agree, unfortunately I won’t have these opportunities forever so best to make the most of them now. Excited to get it. Hopefully will be beautiful when it’s done
Sadly said goodbye to this yesterday. Unfortunately just don’t have the time or inclination to get her right. Sold within a day and got what I’d put out on her back. Watch this space- trying to save for a road legal trials bike now
That's a shame mate, a great friend of mine had a blast building a cracking Triumph bobber with his step-dad from a donor bike they picked up. Made it into magazine shoots in the end, they went that far with customizing it. Can't find any pics of the exact bike but pretty similar to this: Does 'road legal trials' mean 'get some supermoto wheels on it'?
Totally Max but after covid etc weve both started a lot of little home projects as weren’t allowed to work together on it. With time I’m sure we’ll get another! a proper trails bike, to basically bunny hop over my neighbours cars
