I noticed a few weeks back on the 16 Black blade that water was getting into the tail unit. I thoroughly tested where it was entering and it was in the gap around the brake light unit.
You can see a lot of daylight around it and it's flooding in from the rear tyre fling.
There is play around this presumably to take into account suspension movement etc.
Anyway thinking it was just a fault with the black one, we've sealed around it with some rubber and seems to be doing the trick.
Then I got caught in heavy rain the other day on the SP and yep same thing happened on that!!
It just doesn't pool in the lip as shown in pic but runs off the lip and down into the rest of the tray.
I stuffed a load of heavy duty paper towels in on the way home...just 15 miles and they were sodden...that's how bad it is!
Never had this issue with the 2011 Blade. They changed the design by 2014. How on earth can you have a bike that the design let's water in so badly where electrics are.
I've rust under the black one where it had been happening and I didn't know!
Just a heads up as I know a lot only ride in dry but if you get caught out on a 14 to 16 blade best check...

Spray a load of ACF on the rusty bits to stop that in it's tracks.

    Agree it's shoddy design.
I often think that the manufacturers do not factor in sh*te weather in their design process...I think they have this imaginary target market of track day riders and people living in hot sunny climates whizzing along empty roads with sweeping corners smiling and grinning all the while; reality is as the cold weather bites it's all snot, tears and salty roads :(

I get water in there too but mine drains out itself. I guess some is coming in from road spray but I think most of mine is entering at the top where there is a gap under the pillion seat because I removed my cowl to favour the grandsons arse sitting there ;)
As a precaution, I have thoroughly soldered all the wiring connections made for the tail tidy and then wrapped them properly with good quality electrical insulation tape. I could do a pic but not anywhere near the bike just now :(

Never had a drop get in my '16 SP, even in a 75 mile torrential downpour

As long as it looks good in the showroom and gets good reviews from the press on a day jolly. after that any issues are all at the buyers time and expense
