Hi everyone, looking for some help with my 2015 CBR1000rr. I picked it up used (only 900 miles) from a dealer, very clean, showroom actually, just about 2 months ago. That day when i first seen it the bike wouldn't turn over and the salesman put in a new battery and started right up. A week later i came by to pick it up and no issues. I got in a brief short ride but the weather was too cold to ride so just put it in the garage. A week later went to start it and wouldn't turn over so i replaced the battery. Started up the next weekend but this morning it wouldn't turn over. I placed it on a trickle charger and 20 min later started right up, backfired once but no other issues. I want to leave it on the charger for the day and then take it off to see if it happens again. What i would like to know is what could this be??? I read on other forums about older models and issues with the ABS as well as the alarm but can't find anything about the 2015. I do have both ABS and an alarm but can't believe that it drains so quickly. Never had this happen and i'm not exactly mechanically inclined so any advice would be most appreciated, thanks!
It seems common that many Hondas with H.I.S.S. and alarms drain over a week. Doesn't sound right, but this is normal, especially in colder weather. You really need to leave it on a battery tender.
I'm (kinda) glad that this isn't something i alone have to deal with but yeah, i agree, this "normal" just isn't right. Will there be issues of it draining while riding? I dont want to pull over for lunch only to have it die and be forced to buy a dinner also, not good.
Hi welcome to the forum get yourself an optimate charger and trickle charge the battle for when the bikes not being used.
Hello and welcome, in normal circumstances the battery should have enough change to start the bike after a week. It’s possible that the alarm could be discharging it, my brother had problems with his alarm and ended up removing it. I always remove my battery over the winter or when I know the bike is not going to be used for a couple of months. Once the battery is fully discharged it may not fully recover. As the fireblade has a fairy small capacity battery it needs to be in good condition to start, especially in cold weather.
I read others having alarm issues also, is it difficult removing the alarm? On a side note, your bottom cowling in red/white, is that aftermarket? Like it better than my grey one.
It was a few years ago we removed the alarm, from memory it was straight forward enough I can’t remember having any issues. Traced the wiring back, disconnected it and put things back together as necessary. Regarding the lower cowling, the red part is a Chinese replica that I painted just so I could keep the original should I wish to put it back to standard. The white part (infill panel) I made myself specifically to fit the SC Project exhaust. Have you taken the bike back to the dealer regarding the battery issue?
You will have no issues with the battery at all while the bike is in daily use - unless there is a charging system fault.
If a new battery drains in a week in our cold weather, then you need to look into it. Honda HISS draws extremely little to no current specially if the red led is turned off. I have mine on (it goes off after 24 hrs) and can go without charging as long as the bike is used once a week and, a big and if the battery is good. I would check the parasitic current draw of the bike to get some idea of where things are. BTW have you got any usb adaptor fitted on your bike?
Hi & welcome ! Like me, hope your problem will be solved quickly. For my own experience with Honda cars, engine are reliable mais often, components & devices can become faulty ^_^
