Been waiting for something like that to come up again. Complete waste of time and money, are they going to force people to buy a new bike when you can't get an OEM part because the manufacturer has stopped making it or can't be arsed to do so?

Filled in the questionnaire. It's a bit long and seems designed to put you to sleep so you don't bother. Worded mainly around autonomous vehicles. How they can chuck bikes into the same category when it comes to "alterations" is madness. I can see you don't want some twat altering their Google car so it ploughs into traffic or pedestrians but the whole thing is so wide ranging it's nonsensical.

After reading the article and digesting it, with the bit below sticking in my mind

‘Clearly if a bike is nominally Euro 4 but had had the catalytic converter removed, charcoal canister binned and a full remap, its emissions will greatly exceed the emissions limits even if on paper it complies’

then decided I needed to go out into the garage, and took a good look around the NC30 & SC28, consulted the Haynes manual, took another look with a torch a bit closer, scratched me head, went back indoors, looked in the Haynes book of lies for the section on catalytic converters, charcoal canisters & maps, closest thing to maps I could find was the wiring diagram, which actually looked a bit like the London Underground map, really drew a blank, so cracked open a beer and put me feet up, can’t see what all the fuss is about unless I’m missing the obvious.

Latest report from Department for Transport in consultation with National Motorcyclists Council and British Motorcyclists Federation is to expect legislation around 2024 and it will likely be retrospective (concerning noise and emissions - race cans and de-cats).

Are you sure the retrospective on this law, surely its for modern cars, bikes, Ebikes and so on?
Was about to buy a ducati speciale, but that has a non road use full race system, this law would then make it unusable on UK roads?
Don't want to buy if trouble selling later due to non road use?
Where did you read about the law being retrospective?

Article was on www.visordown.com through google search 'anti tamper legislation uk'. Mentioned towards the end of the item, but no indication of who will be tasked with policing the legislation or what the cut off point will be. Could this be the end of Harleys? (and Skylines?).

Don't forget the basis of this legislation already exists in Germany with TUV type approval.

A number of tuning shops in the U.S. have apparently had licences revoked, been prosecuted or closed down by state or federal enforcement over fueling modifications to vehicles.

It has been illegal for nearly 20 years. European whole vehicle type approval.
A friend who works on lorries has this problem with VOSA inspectors. Basically if you fit any non original part it needs a new type approval certificate. Swap your worn out bridgestones for michelins annd it's illegal.
Never been enforced on the public yet.

All depends whether they bring in emission testing on bikes for MOT, although I guess we could change the cat back just for MOT, doubt they will bother with all non OEM bits, seems they are after the emissions and fuelling more than anything else.
