i've heard people say the newer model blades use oil, but i wasnt expecting it to be that much after a day on track it used approx 250ml is this about right?
Honda quote that a litre per thousand miles is acceptable over that and you may have cause to claim, however not sure if that includes track days Do you know how many miles you covered because you could try and work it out
I probably covered approx 250 miles when i checked the dipstick and then topped up by 250ml so that sounds about right then?
No they don't, gsxr didn't use a drop, neither did my previous kawasaki. Never had it on the road so don't know
FYI, the bike won't care where it is (road or track), but how the engine's being used might affect it
lol thats strange because all my bikes are ragged and have been on track at some point, none have used oil like the blade. sounds like its common, not an issue as i'll just top it up. just wanted to know if i have a problem.
None have used any, or any like the blade? Very different mate! Normal usage I'd say mate for track use IMO - and rember, just cos on other bikes the level doesn't go down as much, doesn't mean it doesn't need changing more often if your canning the bike regularly!
Mine (2012) uses a little when ridden harder & faster. Not a great deal. Just a hundred ml or so every couple of weeks. If you ride it gently though, it doesn't use any. H
GSXR didnt use a drop in 4 years of hard life on track, regular oil changes too. kwak used but minimal. same life as the zuki
Yeah the blade is bad for it, bad enough sure some got recalled and that doesn't happen easily. Some are worse than others though but only you can decide if its cheaper for a tear down for piston rings or just keep lobbing oil into it. Trackday riders probably get affected the worst seeing that road only bikes don't get ridden as hard and race bikes don't do as many miles.

whats the idea behind that bonjo? mine was at very top and then when i checked it at around 40% so i topped it up again.
I measured the oil quantities at my second oil change to determine the top up capacity on my bike. Here is what I found but remember I just used a basic graduated jug! From empty (oil+filter change) to the start of the dipstick, mine took 2.6L Then around 70~100ml to bring it to the lower mark Then 150~200ml to take it up to the full mark I did each step a day apart after thee engine was turned on to let the added oil circulate first, then to drain and settle. I have a suspicion that most of the time the engine is overfilled and the excess is burnt off. MAny (many) years ago I saw the aftermath of an overfilled (car) engine and was told by an experienced mechanic the reason for it. So to play it safe, I have always gone for the midway level indication cars or bikes irrespective. I would expect it is more critical in a high performance bike (higher revs and CR) compared to a less taxed car engine.
