Wow that is an expensive hobby but would loads of fun but there are worse things to spend money on and at least it is an experience that you won't forget. I'll give it a go though as a good mate of mine has been on at me to race with him in the No Limits Endurance racing so could be a good crack he's already got the bike etc. I've got comfortable with passing although did almost crap my pants last year at Silverstone when some dude on a 4c8 R1 shot passed me at the end of the hangar straight just inches to my right I actually got a lot of wind buffeting from that one but managed to stay on but did shake me up a bit as I had no idea he was there hadn't heard him following me etc...
Summat I'm getting used to mate I had a shit qualy so 23rd on grid dry tyres on wet track don't work but on 1 race I got a mega start and didn't like being in the middle of the pack shit myself but gotta learn to stick my elbows out and get in the mix . I did finish 13th 2nd on class so was happy but know I can do better
Ha - as wedge says, soon get used to it. In my newcomer it's a bit wacky races, pretty much anything goes.... track day naughtiness doesn't even raise an eyebrow lol
Like wedgie says if it wasn't for the daughter I would be road racing, mate of mine is out at the IOMTT right now, the ba$tard!!!! was talking about it with the missus last night and it was a big NO NO, otherwise I would be doing the international road racing here in europe..... Thinking about going back to racing next year, might even try and get my mate to join me over with you guys, alone isn't feasible with ferry and diesel costs... Here we pay our race fees up front in feb/march, so I kind of forget to add that to the total, but add another 50£ of booze onto that total and it's about right At least you have something to look forward to YT, I know people that just get up, go to work, come home eat, sleep and repeat, imagine how bloody boring that is, at least when we're not racing were in the garage spannering, or doing something bike related...... Crack on @ donny dude!!!
Cheers skippy gonna get it pinned at Donny your right Jimbo I'm allowed to wheelie after a race wooooooo
He set off on the sighting lap like a race start and then as he came back down the start finish straight he seemed to be shocked that there was someone stood in the middle of the track with a red flag - he panicked and ran it into the wall. Ground a flat in his helmet on the wall as he slid alone trapped between his bike & wall.
I bet there were a few "dikchead" coughs and snipes at him what a twat, they should have just swept his bike up and told him not to bother come back..... We had one a few years ago when I did my license in belgium, dutch guy on a R1, wheelied straight out of the pitlane and lost the front when coming down, as expected didn't get his license as he couldn't do his practical
The funniest thing was that it was in the lunch time of a standard track day so you had all the guys hanging over the pit wall to 'watch the fast racers'. Some photos here: Peter Wileman Photography You can see one of the guys on the start in one of the photos thats to one side after he'd been picked up. (I'm on the Swan R6 (not the Swan R1))
Cost of getting to my first race: Bike £4000 Spare wheels & wets £475 Tyres £220 ACU Licence day & No limits membership £125 Hottrax Membership £35 ACU Road Race Licence £45 Power cup Tyres (1 pair): £220 Team Entry (team £975): £325 Track day: £140 Then start adding all the other stuff.
what bike are you racing? I've just decided to do some european road racing next year with Home - IRRC - International Road Racing Championship, only 6 weekends, but price is decent and the road tracks are in good nick..... just told the missus that were living on bread and water for the next 18 months
2006 Yamaha R6. It's got a different set of fairing for racing. There's 3 of us from the forum racing in different classes in Hottrax at Donington.
From what I've seen it's a fine balance between the time out and staying fresh to keep good times going and not changing too often and loosing time there! My races are 20 mins all in and I know about it. 40 mins will be tough mate but your fitness is pretty good anyway I think so should be ok.... But be ready to be in bits lol
You can see it with my team mates Moggy & Spence that they are stronger in the final stints compared to other teams. I need more riding fitness (excuse to get out more before the Blade sells)
